Frank Pepe Pizzeria (est. 1925) is home to white clam pizza and one of the oldest and best-known pizzerias in the country. The Wooster St. legend is home to white clam pizza and one of the world’s oldest and most famous pizzerias. Known locally as Pepe’s (pep-eez), it has its Original Location in the Wooster Square neighborhood of New Haven, CT. Today, there are 16 additional locations across CT, MA, RI, NY, MD, VA, and FL. Frank Pepe knew in 1925 that only coal burns hot and dry and doesn’t give off steam like a wood fire. He knew that only a coal fire could give his “tomato pies” their famous crisp, charred, chewy crust.

What a great experience! (Note: not the Original Frank Pepe’s in New Haven, CT) We were super excited to stop and experience this Legendary Pizza! The ovens are amazing and produced one on my favorite pizza ever. It was so good! Highly recommended. Definitely worth the stop. Can’t wait to drive near again.

My mom and I were in CT visiting from Nashville and were craving traditional Northern thin sliced pizza, so our family brought us here. We ordered a medium white shrimp pie, and two large pies (cheese and bacon), we ordered them all well done because that’s how we like it. It was the best pizza I’ve ever tasted. The crust was delicious, the tomato sauce wasn’t too loose or too thick, it was perfect. The service was great and I appreciate the small concise menu. Highly recommend this place!

Our waitress was super nice. That’s where the best of it ends I’m afraid. As we were waiting we startled by a barking dog, which we didn’t notice until the noise interrupted our conversation. The wait itself was over 30 mins even though this location was NOT crowded at all with people in the dining room. Then the pizza. We got a half plain half pepperoni and sausage. Then a classic clam pie. The pepperoni and sausage was doughy and slightly undercooked, not at all like what I experienced at the original Frank Pepe’s in New Haven. But the flavors were nice, although not spectacular. Then the clam pizza. AWFUL. I LOVE SEAFOOD (check my reviews of other restaurants) the clams tasted like they came from a jar and were over cooked and rubbery. It’s rare for me to have seafood or pizza I don’t like and sadly this was it. I was unwilling to eat another bite and can’t believe the hype around this location if they are willing to serve that. Frank Pepe’s in NH is overrated IMO but the one is Fairfield is flat-out subpar. Side note: The parking lot was confusing and didn’t offer enough spaces for people with disabilities.

This Fairfield, CT location is really a great way to experience the Frank Pepe’s style pizza. The one in New Haven (while the original) can be overwhelming with huge lines and no space to eat. This location made the pizza quickly and it was perfect. Also lots of room to eat inside.

Ordered Frank Pepe’s on Uber eats. Pizza is delicious but I ordered a Ceasar salad, supposed to come with croutons, Romano cheese, etc. It showed up a big container of lettuce. Barely any dressing in the cup. No croutons, no cheese. There was 2….yes 2 olives in the container.

Nothing beats Frank Pepe’s. I’ve lived in CT for most of my life and this pizza has never lost its magic. Being able to see the staff working on the pizzas made everything feel that much more special.

Stopped off with my son on the way to a concert last night and had no intention of leaving a review but he said something profound when we left. The pizza is fantastic, there isn’t much debate about that fact. The thing that blew me away was that when we left my 10 year old said “Dad, you know what I realized about the people who work there almost right away?” When I asked what that was he responded, “The people who work there aren’t just being friendly because you are there to eat pizza, they seemed like really nice people.” So, in addition to fantastic food, the people who work there make the experience that much more special. Kudos.

We’ve seen Frank Pepe’s on Food Network and friends have highly recommended it. Now I’m one that’s strongly recommending it! I’ve been all over the country and this is hands down one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had. The service was great as well! If you’re ever in the area, this is a MUST try! Parking is pretty limited, but that’s to be expected with pizza of this level.
