I’ve been dining at this restaurant about once a week for the past two months, spending anywhere from $60–$140 each visit, and I’ve genuinely loved the food and overall experience. Because of that, I was excited to bring my boyfriend here when he came into town. We enjoyed our meal and even ordered food to go.
Unfortunately, once we got home and reheated the pasta, my boyfriend found a gray hair in the dish. I was embarrassed and disappointed, especially since I had recommended the restaurant so highly.
Out of respect for the business, I didn’t want to leave a negative review. Instead, I called to notify the restaurant so they could be aware and hopefully prevent it from happening again. The person I spoke with said she wasn’t working that day and couldn’t really help, which felt dismissive since I was simply trying to pass along important feedback. I suggested that kitchen staff might need to wear hair nets.
She eventually took my phone number and said she would pass the message to the manager. It has now been about five days, and I haven’t received any follow-up.
I’m still disappointed, not just because of the incident, but because of the lack of response afterward. As a loyal customer who truly enjoys this place, I expected better communication and accountability.

Okay, we ordered here for the first time and I have to say…the portion size is abismal. How in the world does two cannelloni equate to a full meal?? What’s worse, my husband ordered manicotti. Again, 2 manicotti. Pictures are added for reference….can you tell them apart because we sure can’t AND they weren’t labeled in any way. The only “meal” we ordered that can be counted as a full meal is the spaghetti and meatballs. The meatballs are generous in size. Each “meal” did come with an 8inch warmed unsliced, unseasoned sub roll. We have not even tried the food because now I have to figure out what I have that I can ADD to this mess to make an actual meal. Truly a disappointment – Italian food is made to feed the family, this is not what I expected at all!! Also, what Italian restaurant provides no side salads with entree’s?? This is so sad.
Update: tasted the food and it is bland, bland, bland. The Cannelloni is supposed to have ricotta and spinach with ground beef….there is no ricotta and the green you see in the pic is parsley not spinach. This experience has been TRAGIC!! Anyone who claims this place had great food has either A- never had genuine Italian food or B- doesn’t ever season their food.

I was at Franco’s today. They had the best chicken Alfredo linguine I’ve ever had! Came with the garlic, mushrooms, chopped green onions. The chicken breast chunks were awesome! My congrats!!

A work function with colleagues from another company. I’ve eaten here for lunch in the past and the lunch portion is huge so I opted for a kids ziti portion (aka the 1/2 portion). No leftovers but plenty to eat. Service is impeccable and the price is very reasonable.

Family stopped by to eat there on our way to visit the botanical gardens not too far away. Parking is shared as it is a shopping center but no problems were experienced. Our waitress Lori did a great job. The inside is kinda of dated in appearance a dark but with its own charm. I give it a 4 simply because it needs some upkeep. We didn’t see any heightchairs at first but they were hiding in the bathroom area. Not the most sanitary place and it was small, dark, and sticky back there. I hope it becomes more inviting maybe a new coat of paint or something or fix small tears in the upholstery. We had pizza and that tasted just fine.

Lives up to its historic record. Meatballs are excellent and pizza was delicious. Carafe of wine is a good value and service was fast (if you get the Sicilian pizza you may wait up to an hour, but enjoy the wine while you wait). Definitely worth the trip and if they will take a reservation, make one if going on a Friday or Saturday. They do close a little earlier compared to other restaurants.

Visiting Franco’s this past weekend was a treat to say the least! I have been coming to this lovely restaurant for the past 30 years with my family. We live two hours away and when we visit Norfolk, we always stop in for a great dinner here. The piano player was playing his lovely music and seeing him was marvelous. A huge thank you to our waitress, Emily for getting us their famous house dressing to take home. You were so sweet to us and we will be back to see you! The food is incredible and so is the staff. I look forward to visiting your restaurant each time.

Had their steak sub a month ago and thought it was good. This one I’d ordered recently had veggies in it which isn’t bad, but unexpected. The meatball sub was all beef. You need some pork for some flavoring. Haven’t had the pizza since 2009.

We have eaten here since they opened in the 80’s. We eat at several other Italian restaurants around the area. Day in and day out I would take this over many of the others. I have tried many antipasto salads and this is by far the best, the dressing is the key, by far the best I have ever encounter. Same thing goes for the sausage. Never have I been able to find any as good at any other Italian restaurant I eat in. Now let’s talk about “Pizza Bread”…..you have to go and fine out for yourself:-) we are always happy here. Chairs are a might lumpy (some)….try it out
January 2025………Lets talk about French fries and steal & Cheese hoagie………i know there are many kinds of commercial grade french fries available to restaurant to usr and i do not know what kind they are, but by far some of the best in Tidewater. Now the steak and cheese hoagie – rated the same as the french fries. my opinion only and i am 80 and have never eaten a steak hoagie in any other place , so i can not compare it, but i can tell you it is outstanding
