My husband grew up in West Port and he talks about these sandwiches so much! When we came back into town for his reunion, it was one of our first stops! He had not eaten here in years and was worried it would be different, but he was so happy the place was basically the same.
We both loved our food, which was freshly prepared right in front of us. The grilled chicken here is especially tasty.
There was plenty of seating and the restaurant was moderately busy (but not crowded).
There was ample, free parking. The staff was helpful and professional. The restaurant was clean. The pricing was fair.
Great spot for lunch if you’re in town. We highly recommend their tasty sandwiches!

Sandwich was awesome. I ordered the Aristocrat. Minus one star bc I asked to use the restroom and the super friendly clerk was quickly interjected by a co-worker that the restroom wasn’t available. Then the friendly clerk suggested I use another restroom and was interjected again that I could not use that one either. Otherwise, one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. Will return, hopefully without needing the restroom 😉

Solid sandwiches, were able to do a large order pretty quickly. Their chicken cutlet sandwiches are very good. I wish they’d deliver.

Old School, approachable comfort food and service. They focus on providing really enjoyable and good quality breakfast or lunch sandwiches and plates. Reasonably priced without hyped-up, exotic ingredients and prices. It’s the authentic local, friendly delicatessen that used to be on every corner serving up tasty and hearty food. It’s takeout place but they also offer very convenient seating if you prefer.

My sister and I are low key Bacon, Egg and Cheese sandwich connoisseurs. That being said we unanimously agreed that their Double Egg, Double Cheese, Double Bacon sandwich was the best we’ve ever had IN OUR LIVES. Granted we have only been eating BEC for 20 years – so far this one takes the cake. First the ROLL: Not stale, not too much bread that you can’t even finish your sandwich and no leak throughs. BACON: we asked for crispy and they delivered. It wasn’t greasy or dripping, it wasn’t burnt and I don’t know what kind of bacon they use but I swear it tasted better than all the rest. Not too salty or smokey , not thick or fatty. truly perfectly crisp tasty bacon. EGGS: we asked for over medium and WOW. It was like one of those soft boiled eggs but it was fried eggs with the same yolk consistency. Runny enough to keep the sandwich from being dry (which is the worst imho), but not enough to pour out of the sandwich onto you hands, face and whatever you happen to be eating above. Good ratio of yolk to whites, I think they use medium or standard eggs instead of jumbo which is nice. and last but certainly first in my heart CHEESE: You can ask for whatever cheese you want, we usually go with american or cheddar, this time american and they nailed it. The problem I often find with the cheese is that places skimp on the cheese, even when you ask for double. Not here! It was perfectly melted and balanced out all the other flavors coming from the bacon and eggs. It was also still warm when I got home with the sandwiches (about 30 mins after) so the cheese wasn’t clumped or dry either. sometimes you see the cheese is applied as an afterthought and only partly melted, which I personally don’t like. Overall: EXCELLENT – top marks and I highly recommend not just the sandwich but Fortuna’s in general. I could do a whole post about their caesar wraps and how amazing they are, but I’ll just end it here with a big thanks to everyone at Fortuna’s for bringing this deliciousness into my life. P.S. the picture I posted was taken mid way through this post and through the sandwich so I unfortunately only had half a sandwich to show and bad lighting.

Potato salad has no flavor. Banana chocolate chip bread also in the same boat. Just not good. Service was good. Asked for a sandwich with American cheese and other things. Didn’t get the cheese. The bread was fresh and it seems the lunch meat was good quality. I’ll probably pass the next time.

I used to go to Fortuna’s weekly when they had a store in Fairfield corner of Grasmere and Post road back in the 70’s, when they closed that store I would go up to Brookside shopping center in Bpt. Today wife and I went to the Westport store so it’s been over 30 years since the last time. I ordered my usual Pizza grinder wife had one also and I brought a godfather for dinner. AWESOME!!!! The service was great, staff was friendly and the food was as good as I remembered. Keep up the great work!!

A roadside legend on Post Rd. E where the sandwiches tower and your diet packs its bags. The signature ‘Godfather Hero’ practically threatens your waistline with flavor bold enough to make you forget the calories. Staff are friendly, the bread’s pristine, and for 45 years this place has fed Westport’s hungry hearts.
