Reviews
Everything from top to bottom was top tier.
I should also mention my girlfriend told me this was her favorite meal in Philly so far! For me, it was definitely top 5.
We chose to go to Forsythia for their NYE menu and were incredibly excited based on the menu that had been released. Highlights included the beef short rib and the Mont Blanc, both were incredible and clear standouts. Additional highlights included a focaccia and house gnocchi that were not listed on the NYE menu.
Unfortunately, these two standout dishes were split between two other courses that fell short, in our opinion. The first dish, an artichoke and blood orange salad, had a strong fishy taste that was inconsistent with other king crab dishes we’ve had in the past. Lastly, the scallop was served diced, which we felt unfortunately took away from a traditional scallop dish and the potential of this dish.
With all of this said, the food and overall experience were good, and we had a lovely evening. It was evident that each staff member cared deeply and worked very hard throughout the service. The experience was clearly a step above the average dinner, and we would gladly return to dine at Forsythia.
This review is simply an evaluation of the NYE experience and the inconsistencies across the courses. For a high-end dinner at a price point of over $200 per person out the door, we were hoping for less variability in the consistency of each course.
Service is always great & brunch is excellent.
For 10 minutes after we were seated, nobody came over. Eventually, a staff member did and just asked do you want to put in any drinks? No introduction, name, or information on the menu. We said we would like a rundown of the cocktails and she passive aggressively said well what do you need to know. It was condescending and not helpful.
They brought out complimentary focaccia which was so hard it was inedible. My friend said its not normally like that. Im shocked they would serve us that.
The food we ordered was good – frog legs, mozzarella beignets and scallops. The scallops were outstanding and presented beautifully. When we ordered them, the server asked if we wanted mushrooms or potatoes with them. We got mushrooms (so tasty) but when we got the bill, there was a $14 for a side of mushrooms. She didn’t tell us it wasn’t included with the entree, we didn’t appreciate the sneaky way of trying to get us to spend more money.
Overall, I’m very hesitant to come back because of how poor the service was. The prices are HIGH and I have been to several restaurants in the city with way better service for lower prices. Its unacceptable.
Service was immaculate. Food was wonderful.
I had the shrimp and grits. Perfect texture and creaminess. We also had an assortment of great desserts.
