“From Grits to Coffee: Perfect Start to the Day”
Looking for breakfast in Philly, I stumbled on this spot and decided to give it a try. Best decision ever!

We were seated right away (a win when you’re hungry), and our waitress was friendly and on point. The food came out fast, and the portions? Generous enough to match our appetite—just like home cooking.

We had waffles, eggs with cheese, turkey bacon, cream chipped beef, grits, and pancakes. The turkey bacon was thick-cut and full of flavor—no paper-thin nonsense here. And the grits… wow. Perfectly cooked. So good we asked to thank the chef in person!

The coffee was excellent—my personal breakfast test—and the staff made us feel so welcome we lingered longer than planned.

Next time I’m in Philly, this will be my go-to breakfast stop. Big kudos to the chef!

Actually stumbled across this place on my way to another breakfast place.
We’re from out of town and looking for someplace that had breakfast, specifically pancakes or French toast for my daughter. As we were walking down the street, noticed this place which didn’t come up on a Google search and decided to stop in. This has been the best choice of my morning so far.
Service is great, food was quick to order and fantastic, and just an overall great vibe to the place.
When in Rome, went with the cheese steak omelette and the pork roll egg and cheese sandwich. Brought back memories of when I used to live across the river in Jersey. Great little spot!

A part of me wants to give the rating a two star, but this wasn’t a horrible experience, and so it gets three stars. First, the food is incredibly mid. It’s bland but not bland enough where it’s just bad food, but it definitely is not food worth over $20 with a drink. The chicken philly I got was pretty bland, and so was the philly my friend ordered. The breakfast sandwich was pretty good, but that was it. The fries were just, normal fries you could probably buy at a grocery store in a frozen bad. Not only that, but having no AC in the restaurant definitely didn’t help. Our waitress barely attended to us, but she was also cooking at the same time so I can’t blame her. Overall, if you’re wanting food in Philadelphia, do not make Food on First your first choice. Even if it seems affordable, one, it’s not, and two, it’s definitely not worth it.

My family and I visited Philly for a wedding and by luck found Foods On First Diner for Breakfast. From the minute we walked in we were made to feel welcome. The staff was smiling, joking with each other and happily serving the guests. The positive energy was felt immediately. The menu had something for everyone and all four of us were really happy with what we ordered. The portions were big, the food was all super fresh and the coffee was delicious. This place hit the spot!! I had the best chat with the guy running the place. These guys really get that hospitality comes from the heart. Highly recommend a visit. The whole team at this restaurant knocked it out of the park. Continued success in 2026. Thanks for a great start to the new year!

This is a little diner in center City. Seems like breakfast is what they’re known for and the breakfast is pretty good. The lunch items like cheesteaks, burgers and cold sandwiches are just average run of the mill diner fare. Reasonably priced for center City but nothing special about the food. They do deliver quickly so if your in a time crunch for lunch they will get it to you. The pictures in the menu do not match the product as even the rolls are different.

Very good food and good service too. Though the place seems a bit old, everything is well arranged and neat.

I tried Shrimp and Grits for the first time, and it was so much better than I expected!
The creamy grits and the plump, juicy shrimp were the perfect match, and I enjoyed every bite.
I always thought Southern food would be heavy, but this is something I’d definitely want to eat again!

I used to work right next door at the LeMeridien Hotel but never ate here. The other day I wanted some breakfast at 6am and it was one of the only places open near me, so I tried it. The atmosphere was really pleasant for a diner. It was very clean. The service was excellent, very personable. And the food was excellent as well. I had the French Toast, and a Sausage & Egg Sandwich on white. Ample portions, very filling. I would def recommend, and would eat there again.
