Food Hut RKE is a culinary and social events project in beautiful Southwest Virginia. We are located at the corner of 5th Street and Salem Avenue in downtown Roanoke, sharing an amazing patio space with our friends Golden Cactus Brewery and Gatewood Rose Botanicals. We are community-driven, collaborative and constantly striving to support our friends, neighbors and community. Food Hut is a safe space for all. We cook responsibly and with as many hyper-local ingredients as we can. We care about the earth, sustainability and physical/emotional health. We love dogs. We’re here for the fun. So disappointed in this experience, we’ve been coming to Food Hut since it started and have noticed a recent decline in the customer service and getting food in a timely manner. Tonight unfortunately took the cake. We ordered at 7:09 pm on 2/20 waited for an hour and a half. Went to just check on when it would be ready at the hour mark was told 15 minutes, then after another 5 minutes, and waited another 7 minutes. The worker at the door was not apologetic at all. And instead of being empathetic sent us to wait to take more orders and handle to go orders before “dealing with us” and called the manager saying a “girl wants to talk to you”. Called the manager back who at first offered 20% which at this point it is principal and then 50%. Mind you, you are paying and tipping before, and I already had tipped 20% on principle. Food finally came out an hour and half later burnt…. Just so disappointed…

Since Food Hut was taken under new ownership I’ve visited several times— it is fantastic. The menu changes to keep things fresh and exciting— with thoughtfully paired ingredients and flavors. With that, that still keeps a charm of simpleness that allows for your picky friends to enjoy as well.
I’m so excited to have this place in my neighborhood and look forward to many more visits.
Highly recommend Sunday brunch and ALWAYS get the fried mozzarella. Nothing beats it.

I went to Food Hut for the first time since moving here last weekend with some friends and was very disappointed. We ordered at 7:13 pm on 2/20 waited for an hour and a half. We just had our company holiday lunch catered by Food Hut and I wanted to review before I forgot. I cannot say enough good things about them. From the communication, deciding the menu, having everything set up on time, coming back to check in that things were good, providing to go boxes for leftovers!!!!!!! They crushed it. Everything was phenomenal.

I went for the first time with my son and it was fresh and fabulous. The food was tasty, good quality, and delicious. So for date night decided to take my husband and it was dead awful. The oil soaked fries were under an equally greasy fish with the slaw thrown on top of it all. The whole container was soupy greasy soft wet mess. The chicken and fries were all oily and greasy as well, but the fries were especially bad. I was unable to eat any of the food from a costly $60 order (fish and chips, tenders, and a buffalo chicken sandwich)which was just highly disappointing. I can’t recommend a place without some quality standards of what is allowed out of the kitchen.

Maybe I hit it on a bad night but it didn’t work for me. Location and vibe was good but the sandwich and onion rings weren’t that great. Rings were kinda overcooked and chicken was crispy outside bit not hot at core.
