Stopped in for lunch since Weaver D’s is out and I need a new soul food spot. I was sadly pretty disappointed. The cafeteria set up and all you can eat option is nice, but quantity appears to outweigh quality. Mac and cheese mostly tasted like butter, chicken was decent, but didn’t taste super fresh or flavorful and cornbread was dry and bland. Green beans were solid and the staff was all pretty nice. Even for the lower price, it all feels lacking.
Might have been an off day, but I probably won’t be coming back.

The condition of the actual building leaves a lot to be desired, but that food and the service are awesome. If you are craving some of the best soul food around, you’ve got to try it.
Diners can opt for the all-you-care-to-eat buffet plus drink and a dessert for about $16. There’s also a to-go option, but you would be depriving yourself of many great options by doing that.
Meat options vary a little, but the main ones are fried chicken, fried fish, fried porkchops, baked chicken, etc. Hot sides are plentiful: mashed potatoes, gravy, lime beans, baked beans, cabbage, greens, green beans, etc. Cold sides include a small salad bar (basics only), deviled eggs, vole slaw, potato salad, etc.
Dessert is a slice of cake that comes pre-wrapped on a plate. Drink options are sweet tea, lemonade, and water.
Don’t be a doofus and try to go on Mondays or Tuesdays because they will be closed and your tummy won’t forgive you for it.

Home cooked meal! When you want Grandma’s cookin… Everything was from scratch so if you know you know. Excellent is an understatement!! Macaroni and cheese, Fried Pork Chops, Fried Chicken, Pan Gravy. These are things you have high expectations of and are usually disappointed at buffet places like this. NOT HERE, NOT TODAY! I did the buffet at lunch but service was great. The dining area is small, maybe 50 max at a tight squeeze, the buffet size matches that but that allows for FRESH food continuously. I was there almost an hour and everything was extremely fresh throughout my visit. Dessert wasn’t out on the buffet but they brought me a slice of lemon cake. This may have been in my best interest because I PROBABLY would have needed to be carried out on a stretcher. It was all that good!!! I’ll definitely be back with my family!!! $18 with a 20% tip. She should own Golden Corral…

Very good all-you-can-eat. Fried fish and tartar sauce were my overall favorite, though. Tables needed to be cleaned off, but it is understandable that they weren’t because it was packed. Fried chicken, okra, and deviled eggs were also really good, of course.

Amazing food and great staff! Everything tastes so good. Fresh and hot! I’m here for the All You Can Eat buffet this morning and I am telling you that it is honestly worth every penny.
God bless y’all and thank you for the fantastic experience. Keep doing great things. I will be back!

Had not been in a really long time. I wanted some soul food today and they did not disappoint. The food is kept VERY HOT. Overall cleaniness of the restaurant is good. I enjoyed everything on my plate. I had 2 pieces of meat and 3 sides and paid $12.80. The only thing I would say is that you don’t know how much you’re going to pay until you’ve already made your plate , and there’s no prices displayed but my food is usually $15 and under. The owner/manager is always nice. The macaroni and cheese was perfect. I’m gonna have to start back coming regularly! This food states like old school soul & R&B. It tastes like a grandma that’s the backbone of the family. It tastes like after church. It makes me wanna dance. Worth every dollar. I wanna kiss the chef. (Not literally)

This is a very down to earth spot. Wonderful and friendly people who own the business. It was my first time here, and I felt like I was treated like family. Before I left, I got to meet one of the cooks, who was the sweetest elder woman.
If you want true Southern food, come and try this place. I had chose their ‘all you can eat’ choice for $14. Their chicken and Mac and Cheese were my absolute favorite!
I will be back soon!

Food for the Soul is open for lunch Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and is well worth a visit. The restaurant specializes in home cooked foods ranging from fried pork chops, baked chicken, and salmon croquettes to collards, butterbeans, and devilled eggs. Selections vary daily, but the standards like fried chicken and macaroni and cheese are always there. Diners can eat inside the restaurant or take meals to go. Plate choices include meat and vegetable combos or the buffet option. Parking is beside the restaurant on a side street, but there are a couple of handicapped spots directly in front.

Food for the Soul immediately made it to my top 5 favorite restaurants in Athens! I forgot to take a picture before eating, so this was my plate halfway through. This has to be the best fried chicken I’ve ever had. Granted, I’m from New Jersey, so I don’t have a ton to compare it to, but damn, I can’t stop thinking about it. Also, I work on baxter and this is one of the best deals I’ve found for lunch in this area. I got a meat, two sides and corn bread for $12. The mac & cheese ran out right when I got there, so I’ll have to try that next time. Also, they were playing Sade which only added to the experience. ALSO it was super quick and easy to serve myself and check out which is perfect when you only have a 30 minute lunch.
EDIT: I just learned that it’s pork chop LOL whatever, it’s the best pork chop I’ve ever had
