Back in 1987 we needed a place to go. A place to drink good coffee and watch the world go by. A place where good food was homemade and where the desserts were fresh. We decided to buy and renovate a derelict building on old Route 66 in Nob Hill. Along the way we started a scratch bakery, cooked a lot of good food, learned to roast coffee beans and got so busy that we had to build more cafes. Today, despite a few more locations, a name change, and 350 more employees, we are still a small, local company that serves up community from scratch every day.

Relaxed cafe chain serving globally influenced American fare, including all-day breakfast.

Not impressed. We got the breakfast burrito with bacon, the rise and shine breakfast sandwich on a biscuit, and a blueberry pancake. The scrambled eggs here are unlike any form of scrambled eggs I’ve had outside of a quiche. I’m not sure if they whip them extensively first or what but they have a very airy, foamy texture which is off-putting.

For the burrito, it was filled with these weird eggs and just a long slice of bacon. The flavors were ok but we couldn’t finish it due to the eggs.

The breakfast sandwich that was served to us was crumbled. The biscuit has fallen all apart and there was a tiny hint of egg and bacon and cheese in the middle. Very dry, underwhelming and sad presentation for my first impression here.

The pancake tasted the best but the batter was over mixed which caused it to be tough and dry.

The prices for their baked goods is ridiculous with $8.50-$9 for a slice of cake or pie. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend.

We have not lived in NM for over 20 years now, but you can’t take the NM out of us. Every time we come to ABQ, we eat breakfast at one of two Flying Stars. Nowhere is better. Green and red chile are both great, the pastries are perfect and coffees are as good as anywhere. Just come, stand in line if you need to, it’s always an enjoyable experience for us! The faces change, but the joy is consistent!

My go to place for doing some remote work and getting a great authentic New Mexican breakfast. Plenty of seating and outlets to plug in the laptop. My chai was elevating and paired with my benedict perfectly. The yolks on the benedict were runny and seasoned, and the sausage added a perfect hint of spice to the already accentuated green chile in the gravy.

I used to love this place but it’s really gone downhill. Got rid of a lot of my favorite stuff. Spent 20$ on a sandwhich that had a small piece of meat, bad green chile, made with cheap bread, and bad fries. The cakes aren’t too bad i guess.

The online menu serves no justice compared to going in and catching the vibe. I wanted to order 3 different meals I don’t know how I missed the mac n cheese grilled cheese sandwich but, that’s what I ordered thankful that the employee sold me by simply giving me my choices. When I come back to visit this is for sure on my must-eat list. They have gluten-free opinions which works out as well for those who have celiac. Yes. I was very big backed eating this

Flying Star continues to be a neighborhood staple, and experiences like this are exactly why. Chrisoula was an absolute delight—kind, attentive, and genuinely invested in making sure I enjoyed my time there. She went above and beyond in every way, was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, and even shared details about their upcoming seasonal desserts, which made the visit feel thoughtful and personal. Chrisoula is truly a gem to both the neighborhood and the Flying Star team. Service like hers makes all the difference. A complimentary letter will be sent to management and ownership. Bravo!

Ordered via Door Dash and asked for extra ketchup because I’m 8 months pregnant and simply can’t get enough of it right now. Not only did I get PLENTY of ketchup, they included extra chicken tenders and a sweet note ❤️ 11/10 recommend!!!

My kids and I got two green Chilli cheese burgers and fish and chips. The burger were pretty good except for a random piece of old lettuce on both burgers and the meat needed a bit more seasoning.
The fish and chips were $20.00 and were a decent size. My daughter loved it. The fries were good and really fresh. Overall the food was really expensive. We spent a total of $55.00 for the food after tip and all. They got desert for another 16.00. So pretty expensive overall.
The atmosphere is probably one of the best and my kids loved it more than most places.
There was a guy that was serving us seemed upset but was actually really nice.

Nice environment. Excellent customer service. The friendly employees made a “cortado” for me, after I explained what it is. They did great!

Excellent alternative to chain restaurants with innovative seasonal items like corn chowder and matzo ball soup. The buddha bowl always satisfies the vegetarians. Not as cheap as fast food but great sit down food for the price.
