Grilled sea scallops wrapped in a bacon chiffonade, lounging in lemon beurre blanc, with collards so tender they could gossip with grandma. The Flying Melon on Ocracoke Island didn’t just serve dinner, they served perfection on a plate. ” ✨

Went here to celebrate our kids 1st anniversary in October of 2025. We had a mix of the fresh fish flounder & drum specials with burre blanc sauce that were absolutely delicious. Then we decided to split the desserts – a strawberry cheesecake, chocolate torte & coffee creme brulee. Holy cow! We all agreed this was one of the best meals we’ve had in a restaurant in a long time!!

If you’re looking for fine dining with down to earth country appeal, this is the place. If it’s five people or more, they suggest reservations. Be ready to loosen the wallet a little, and feel good about it when the evening concludes. Flying Melon is a several course meal experience. The bar prepares well made mixed drinks. Fried green tomatoes on the apps list aren’t to be missed. Fresh seafood selections are favorites, though the filet mignon choices are also delectable. Find room for dessert. The key lime pie and chocolate torte are especially decadent. As befits such an establishment, staff goes out of the way to bring a memorable evening. Treat yourself to an unforgettable dining experience in an unforgettable place.

We loved our meal and drinks. Great menu with fresh, local offerings.
We sat outside at the picnic tables so we could bring our dog. They let us order inside and eat outside from to go boxes. Full menu was available to us. The service was fantastic and everyone was so friendly.

We enjoyed dinner at the Flying Melon yesterday. I had baked oysters as a starter. They were wonderful. Just done, the oysters were juicy and flavorful. My main course was an encrusted red drum. Caught just off the island this was fresh and delightfully flavorful. I’d have these two things any day.

Hands down, the best restaurant we have visited in all of OBX, let alone Ocracoke. The food is always stellar, the service & atmosphere are exquisite, and the cocktail service may be some of the best in the state. What a joy to have it here in our favorite place.

We had the oysters (so fresh!), shrimp bisque and gumbo for apps, then the linguine and fish of the day. Great food and excellent service, thanks Kevin!

Food was ok, thai shimp appetizer was delicious but you could tell the hot strimp sat on the cold slaw too long by time it hit the table.
Drinks were great, and server was super nice. Order was input incorrectly, then was charged full price for the wrong dish. Not what I would expect from a customer service perspective.
Will update the review next time we go, regardless, definitely worth checking out. I have a feeling by mediocre review will be updated

If I could give even more stars, I would! This restaurant is worth the 7 hr drive, the 1 hr ferry, and the 20 min walk it took to get there. The Fried Green Tomatoes are to die for, and the Flourless Chocolate Torte is over-the-top spectacular! Every meal is both beautiful and full of flavor. The waitress is attentive, and the folks who clear the table are on it. This is the singularly best thing about the entire OBX…and I’m not exaggerating!
