Flying Idlis is one of the best restaurants in Houston for authentic South Indian cuisine. The sambar, in particular, was incredibly delicious. The owners are a kind and welcoming couple who make you feel right at home. Highly recommend this place!

Tried multiple things and everything was good. This was my first time and i will definitely visit again.

Ambience is not that great so i think that can be improved.

The timings may be an issue for some people as the restaurant is open only till afternoon in weekdays and closes at 9 pm on weekends.

If you’re craving authentic South Indian food, Flying Idli is a must-visit. The idlis were incredibly soft, smooth, and perfectly steamed. You can tell that everything is being made fresh and with care. The menu also has a lot of unique and delicious options, so there’s plenty to try every time you visit. Definitely a place worth checking out!

We were excited to try this place as many people say it has authentic testing Idli & Sambar.

This place is a dump. There’s barely anybody there, just empty tables and chairs.

The lady at the counter has no care, they’re busy in the back chatting in the kitchen, there’s no hospitality at all.

I tried the Idli dipped in SamBar, it was horrible. Lukewarm, and not authentic at all. We are now driving to Udupi Cafe to get a proper Idli and dosa .

Flying Idlies is a hidden gem for home style South Indian food. Quiet, family friendly, and family owned, it offers comforting dishes with a slight twist that breaks the routine. The Pongal is the best in the neighborhood, and the fiery idly and magic idly are absolute favorites. A great spot for a relaxed, wholesome meal.

The food at this Indian restaurant was good-fresh, hot, and overall I’d rate it around an 7/10. The flavors were enjoyable and the dishes came out quickly.

However, what really stood out was the cleanliness of the place. The tables were dirty, the chairs were turned around, and the floor clearly needed attention. I understand they had a busy morning, but when we walked in, several staff members were just sitting and watching TV during their break. A little more attention to the general upkeep would have made the experience much better.

The ambiance and cleanliness definitely need improvement. Bathrooms definitely needed attention

I ordered two plates of punugulu and this is how they got delivered. They might have transferred the hot ones directly and the foam box melted making the food poisonous.

This is pure negligence of the management .
Never gonna order from here

Flying Idlis Serves the best Authentic South Indian food in the town, with specialty in Idlis. The menu has been carefully crafted to cater to various taste preferences. Whether you prefer spicy dishes or ones with milder flavors, you’ll find something to suit your palate. But the Self Service which I personally didn’t like much. Service is also bit slow. Overall very good experience must recommend this place.

Amazing and wonderful food! If you are ever in the mood for Desi breakfast/brunch this is the place to go to.

We ordered a bunch of food and every item we ordered was very good. Even my parents who don’t really like Indian food here in the States loved how good the food was. The only one not pictured was the Magic Floating Idli. It tasted very good, and they gave it on the side, for us to add the idlis into the sambar. The sambar was a little watery, but tasted good. The Magic Idli had the podi which wasn’t too spicy, but taste good. Both the dosas were very good, crisp and soft in the between, and it vanished from the plate very fast. The upma was made with ghee, which tasted heavenly and just spilled out of your tongue. The coffee was very good, not really filter coffee but it was Desi coffee and it tasted good.

The puri was a little thicker than usual, but still tasted good. The potato for the puri was the same as the one they gave in the dosa, but still tasted good.

If you are ever in Houston, do not forget to visit Flying Idlis for a complete Indian South Indian breakfast.
