This review really pains me. I ALWAYS hope that Latino restaurants are ALWAYS on the WINNING side of things. I NEVER EVER post retaliatory reviews. I’M NOT THAT GUY, however, I will be brutally honest and sometimes, it’s really disheartening to do so but, here we go.

The outside building and the menu on the window looked promising. Even inside, the artwork was nice and Puerto Rican-ish. Then, I encountered a couple of really nice guys that didn’t speak Spanish, at least they didn’t to me even though I spoke to them in Spanish.

Again, they were absolutely great and I have nothing further to say about that.

The food, that’s a whole different animal. As a Puerto Rican, who’s in Puerto Rico as I write this review, the food was the absolute worst I have ever had. I took a spoonful of the rice and a bite of the pork chop and I had my wife wrap it up and throw it in the trash. IT.WAS.THAT.BAD! I think they used Uncle Ben’s microwaveable rice.

What I ate was absolutely NOTHING near Puerto Rican food. The pernil was also terrible and they should be jailed for calling that plate “pernil.” It’s an insult to the pig. I’m going to just dead the rest of my review because it was truly sad.

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Again, it’s painful to write this but, I have to keep it so that my reviews helps people make the right decision. I’m not trolling and definitely not trying to write this review to hurt business but, I have to keep it real.

I am so pleased with the food and service! Upon arriving we where greeted with smiles and cheer. The decor was warm and clean. Ms. Nicki treated my baby like her own. She was friendly and attentive. The chef even came out to converse with us which I loved. We ordered numerous items off the menu and it was all delicious and flavorful! The portions were more than adequate and the pricing was beyond affordable! We ordered 2 different entrees, 6 empanadas, 2 extra sides and 2 drinks and a meal to go and our bill was barely 60$.
We did travel 45 minutes to try this spot and it was worth it! 100% we will be coming back!

I was very excited about this restaurant as it is a small minority business in Pittsburgh I wanted to support. The Chef was busy on the phone most of the time and i think he just reheated leftovers and served us that instead of cooking a fresh meal. The restaurant itself has some cool puerto rican island vibes with colorful and boriqua themed decorations. The negative reviews on the empanadas are accurate, burnt and dry filling. I hope the owners are genuine about improving the quality of food because the place has potential. I honestly felt i was served food that was 1-2+ days old. The touch pad used for transactions/ordering menu was efficient; nice modern touch. Hopefully future customers will experience it on better days!

I’ve been wanting to try Puerto Rican cuisine for a while now, and there aren’t too many options in Pittsburgh. When I saw Flavor of Puerto Rico was offering a $6 discount on an online ordering app, I was definitely interested. Tonight, I ordered the baked chicken sandwich, sweet plantains (maduros), a beef and cheese empanada, as well as a slice of tres leches.

It was a lovely meal at a great price. The sandwich was simple, but very good. Their chicken is roasted perfectly, and incredibly tender. They give you a pretty good portion for the price, too. Pan de agua, or water bread, is homemade and soaks up the chicken juices. It’s great! There’s also a bit of cheese in this sandwich, which was a nice touch.

This was my first time trying maduros, so I wasn’t too sure what to expect other than a sweet flavor. These were definitely sweet, and they are generous with their side portions. Maduros are caramelized on the outside and quite soft on the inside. I’m not the biggest fan of maduros now that I know their flavor, but these were clearly expertly made and still worth trying.

The empanadas (or pastellitos) are an absolute must try when you visit this place. I got the beef and cheese, which was sooo good! The ground beef is juicy and flavorful, while the crust is light and crunchy. I didn’t find any cheese in this empanada, though.

I was a fan of their tres leches. It was very well soaked and creamy. It’s topped with a nice coating and a dusting of cinnamon (the cinnamon flavor is not very prominent). The dessert is not too heavy, either. I do wish the portion was a little bigger.

All in all, this is a hidden gem in Mount Oliver. There are only a few Puerto Rican places in Pittsburgh, and this surely excellent food which seems quite authentic! Now they have a more consistent menu, too, instead of just daily specials. Definitely worth a try for anyone who’s curious about Puerto Rican cuisine.

Amazing hidden gem here locally. The food is delicious with good portions at a competitive price. Not many Puerto Rican spots around the city so we’re lucky to have one as good as this close by. The staff are also extremely friendly!

I went during the middle of the week as it opened for lunch. The pork was a bit dry. The empanadas were overcooked and the filling was bland. The yucca fries were definitely the ingredient that carried the dish. Overall, the food was good but did not meet my expectations when it comes to the flavors in Puerto Rican cuisine.

I’d suggest going here. The food is delicious and as someone who has lived in Puerto Rico growing up, this place is the closest you will likely get to Puerto Rico here in Pittsburgh.

Note: there is no seating. So you pick up and go. The owners are also really nice. It’s a husband (American)/wife (Puerto Rican) team.

From the moment I stepped through the door, I could feel the warmth and love that the owners poured into every aspect of their establishment. Huge dinning area with multiple compartments. There was a separated hall that can easily accommodate big private events.
The food was flavorful, but what truly set this restaurant apart was the sense of family and community that emanated from every corner.
We tried the beef empanadas, the chicken stew was good ( a bit salty for my taste) and the tres leché was moist and creamy.
Cheap prices as well!

I’m a Boricua that moved to Pittsburgh from another state and I finally found a legitimate Puerto Rican food spot!!!!!!! This restaurant had awesome owners, amazing food and the vibe was set with that Salsa music that reminded me of my parents showing off their fire dance moves at the Salsa club. There is no other spot like this in Pittsburgh!!!!! Go in and grab yourself a delicious plate!

So, I got alladis for $11! They didn’t even hold me on the plantains…I got like 50/11 plantains for $2! The chicken was so juicy and seasoned like fuuhhh. I’m not finna lie, the rice was a smidge too salty for me, but I buried it in hot sauce anyways. Lol It is good, but a girl is trying to watch her salt. They do give healthy portions of rice too and made sure to pour some of the juice over it; I loved that. The empanadas are fire too.

The customer service I received here was amazing, and this establishment is truly COVID-19 safe! I love that they’re going the extra mile to keep themselves and their customers safe. These are great people.

All in all, the food is fresh, the service is great, and the flavors are right. It’s a family business, so I hope it gets tons of support!
