Round two with mother in law, we came in 30 min before close and got chop beef sandwich and burger and wife played safe with CFS again. Unfortunately the burger was over cooked and the chopped need more sauce cause it was too dry. Fries were great! We saw the cheesecake on the way in and tried it, and were very pleased with it!
Moral of the story, Two times the Chicken fried steak was the winner. I am just going to order fries next time.
We returned during the week, again just the two of us, to a slower paced restaurant with a single woman playing covers of some great familiar songs on the guitar. We were again quickly greeted and seated. Our server Nick introduced himself and took our order. We again ordered the gator, as it was so amazing the time before, we couldnt resist. As entrees that night we chose the loaded brisket baked potato and the cowboy burger, again requested cooked medium. The gator was first served. Much to our dismay, it was completely under seasoned, the entire plate was under cooked and had a twang to it. When we informed the waiter, he apologized profusely and quickly had it reprepared for us. When the dish came out for the second time there was no mistaking that the meat was turning. We informed him of this and explained we no longer wanted the dish. Our very polite waiter again apologized and took the food away. When ou ur entrees arrived, i first noticed the potato was topped with freshly chopped tomatoes, which may be fine for some, but i personally dont care for and were not listed on the menu. I picked them off and began to dig in. My husband cut into his burger to find it cooked very well done. I asked Nick to have a manager come speak with us and i explained our experience that evening. That it hadnt been one thing, but at least something about everything. I politely asked she take the burger back as we no longer wanted it at that point, and we would share the potato. She explained that a cook no called, no showed, apologized and told us she would cover our bill for the night. The manager both a complimentary banana pudding, which was delicious! Tasting perfectly homemade and exactly what a southern banana pudding should be.
Just to shake things up, we decided to return the very next night with all three kids! Tonight we returned to a bustling busy restaurant with music on the patio and full tables. We waited just a couple minutes while they put some tables together since we had a larger party this time. We again sat in Rebekah’s section and were greeted by a warm friendly face, that not only remembered us from the first visit greeted and chatted with my children! Our drink order was taken and we were again presented with the evening’s specials and friendly recommendations. We gave the alligator one last shot. It was wonderful and cooked perfectly! SUCCESS! My teenage son ordered the mouthwatering delicious cowboy burger, cooked just as he ordered it. He was so impressed at the portion size and that he couldnt finish it all! My smaller children ordered the chicken nuggets and corn dog off the kids menu and both loved their dishes and the amount of food. Hubby had the chicken fried steak which was not quite as good as the first visit, but still very tasty. I on the otherhand listened to the recommendations of the knowledgeable staff… i ordered the fried quail topped with a sweet and spicy chili sauce with jalapeno cheddar grits and pickled salad. Amazing! Best dish ive had in years!
Staff was amazing in helping me set up, and were so attentive to all of our needs.
Food was flavorful and nicely portioned.
Win-win all around! Highly recommend.
As always, the Smoked Reuben Sandwich never disappoints. I absolutely love Flames Barbecue fries and Reuben Sandwich. If you absolutely have to order anything, this is something you should order.
Moving on to the Lobster Bisque — it wasn’t something I enjoyed. I wanted to order a soup-based item because I wanted something soothing for my throat. Not only was it not soothing for my throat, it made my throat more sore and scratchy. The first few sips of the Lobster Bisque tasted really good, especially because I’ve never had Lobster Bisque before. The next few sips, however, were terrible. Yes, it was creamy, but it was also EXTREMELY salty. Additionally, I only had 2 small pieces of “lobster” in a LARGE bisque. I placed quotations around the word “lobster” because we both agreed that it tasted more similar to imitation crab than it did to lobster.
Aside from the food, we didn’t interact with any staff members nor were we there in person. Altogether, I’d eat at Flames Barbecue again — I just won’t get the Lobster Bisque anymore.
The grilled chicken plate was good.
The Cheesecake is definitely meant to be shared.
