To start, the restaurant was more crowded than usual, and many customers looked visibly unhappy. I completely understand that promotions can bring in overwhelming crowds, and I try to be patient in those situations. However, being busy is not an excuse for poor communication or dishonesty.
We placed two online orders about 20 minutes before arriving. After getting there, we waited 30 minutes just to place an order for fries. Then, after another 30 minutes, we got our fries and asked to check on our online orders — which had now been in the system for over an hour.
The employee handling orders (a short guy with glasses) told us he hadn’t seen our names. Meanwhile, I could clearly see my bag sitting on the shelf designated for online pickups. After waiting another 10 minutes to get his attention, I pointed it out to him myself. He grabbed it, and I then asked about my partner’s order, which had been placed even earlier. He responded, “I haven’t seen that name yet, but I’ll look out for it.”
That response made no sense. If my order had been sitting there the whole time, how had he “not seen” my parters order placed even earlier? We sat down and ate for about 15 minutes, and by then, nearly the entire crowd had turned over. People who ordered long after us had already received their food.
When we asked again about the missing order, we were told the same line — that he hadn’t seen the name. We requested that he check the system, since it was obvious at that point that something had gone wrong. Instead of checking, he repeated that he hadn’t seen it and then claimed that checking the system wasn’t possible. That was simply untrue. Having both worked in food service before, we know it’s absolutely possible to look up and reprint tickets. It was clear the order had likely been given to someone else.
Eventually, another staff member stepped in, checked the system, found the ticket from over two hours prior, and reprinted it. We then waited another 20 minutes for the food to be made.
I understand that promotional days are stressful. I understand that mistakes happen. What I don’t understand is the refusal to take accountability and the decision to mislead customers instead of simply admitting there was an issue. Waiting over two hours for a burger — with repeated dismissive responses — is unacceptable.
