If you want a real review, buckle up.
I went to Fitchy’s Home of the Hoagy and…wow. The hoagie was less than mid on its best day. I ordered the ham hoagie with extra pickles and extra onion. That part is subjective, fine.

Here’s where it went left. I asked the cashier what comes on each hoagie. She explains the menu, then confidently says they all come with onions, tomatoes, pickles, oil, and banana peppers. I ask, “So no pepperoncini?” She says, “It’s literally the same thing.”

It is not. Not spiritually. Not botanically. Not emotionally. Either educate your staff on the product or admit you don’t care.

I get home, open the sandwich, and immediately understand the bigger issue. Let me explain why you shave meat for a hoagie. Shaved meat pulls clean, distributes evenly, absorbs oil and seasoning, and works with the bread. Thick cuts fight back, slide out, and ruin the bite. A hoagie is layered, not stacked.
This meat was an inch thick. An inch. I got a piece stuck in my tooth. Had to pause the review. I’m back now.

Also, a real Chicago hoagie has oil dripping down your arm. That’s part of the experience. This was dry. Conservative. Cautious. What they served was basically a salad on bread. Everything sliced thick except the tomatoes, which were somehow even thicker.

Calling this “Home of the Hoagy” is wild. That name comes with responsibility.
I’ll give them another try in a few months, because everyone deserves a chance to tighten it up. But right now, this ain’t it.

The sweet steak sandwich was pretty good. I would give it a 4 out of 5. The sauce is delicious. But I have to be honest, I thought the meat needed more seasoning (salt).

I wish the fries were made to order. I tasted my fries as soon as I got in the car, and they were barely lukewarm. So the fries must have been made long before I ordered. The fries also could have used some salt as well.

I also think it would be helpful for them to add more detail to the menu. For people who have never ordered before or people who have food allergies, it’s good to know exactly what comes on the sandwiches. Just looking at the menu online or on DoorDash, I would have no idea what the standard ingredients are on the steak sandwich. I would have to call and ask. I looked through a bunch of pictures people posted to get an idea of what the standard ingredients were. But it would be helpful if they could add a basic description of what comes on the sandwiches.

Customer service was extremely friendly and the restaurant was clean. I would come back.

Ordered 3 sweet steak sandwiches and a large fry with sauce. The sandwiches were disgusting. The meat is definitely not steak more like ground hamburger. More like a sloppy joe sandwich. I could not get pass the texture of the meat. I paid for a large fry they gave me something like half of a small. I don’t like getting ripped off and wasting my hard earned money and am utterly angry that they are getting over on people serving hamburger meat. I lived in Chicago where the original steak and hoagie began. Taurus was one of our favorite spots and this doesn’t even come close.

I’ve been wanting to try this place for quite some time. Caught a TikTok today that was reviewing them so my husband & I decided this was going to be dinner. He got the steak sandwich and I got a regular hoagie. uummmmm, DELICIOUS!! My sandwich was perfect and my husband, well not only did he scarf it down he’s actually going back to get another one right now!! ‍♀️ I will definitely be back as well. Based on some of the not so good reviews, I hope they’re consistent cuz we will be loyal customers!! Give them a try ❤️

Was iffy after my order was prepared half the time from the original home of the Hoagy. But it was delicious a different taste with sweet steak wasn’t that sweet. Regular hoagie wasn’t the size of the regular steak as you would think. Once again it was delicious the fries was fye. A Must try.

The place was clean and they do provide a few tables if you want to sit there and eat. I had the steak with cheese and a turkey hoagie. Unlike most hoagy places this place does use ham so make sure to specify which hoagy you want. I asked for sweet and hot peppers on my turkey sandwich and although they put what looked like giardiniera on it they also added pepperoncinis, which are not sweet peppers,to each their own. Other than that the turkey hoagy was good. I wasn’t impressed by the steak. There wasn’t enough sauce on it and the meat taste burnt.

When this restaurant first opened, the food was nearly identical to the original Home of the Hoagie flavorful, satisfying, and worth the trip. Unfortunately, that quality has declined significantly. The steak sandwich now tastes more like ground hamburger meat, heavily seasoned with garlic but lacking in the signature sauce that once made it special. The fries were soft and underwhelming, and the sauce no longer has the same taste or richness. I drove all the way to the suburbs expecting the same great experience, but sadly, I left very disappointed.

Tastes identical to original Chicago location. New location with nice modern decor for sitting and eating. Hopefully they will maintain the cleanliness over time. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the wait has not improved compared to the original location, but I wouldn’t complain—good food takes time! They may have been a bit heavy handed on the sauce but not a deal breaker. I had the sweet steak sandwich with fries on the side and added BBQ sauce (or what is commonly referred to in Chicago food joints – mild sauce.). The sauce was very good, it’s more on the sweet side with a slight citrus tang. It even has a hint of very mild pepper. The beef steak is chopped and drench in the sauce. The sauce was a requested addition served on the fries, which were natural cut with skin on.

My first time checking them out and the inside was clean and the workers were very pleasant. A few people I know tried their food before me and told me their plant-based steak has too much garlic. Of course I wanted to try for myself. Everyone is absolutely right it has entirely too much garlic in it. I tried calling to inform them but no answer so hopefully the owner read the reviews and make the changes.

I tried really hard to like these sandwiches but they are not like home of the hoagy, it’s no love in this food. My steak sandwich was soggy and the meat was wet. The fries were so soft I had to air fry them when I got home. Just dreadful. I got 4 sandwiches for $54 and they were all nasty. Stop calling this the home of the hoagie, you’re not even close.
