Sicilian style seafood paccheri pasta

Very quiet over lunch service, promptly served at the bar. Both dishes were quite good, with the pasta being the particular standout. My companion got the fried fish sandwich and grits, which he enjoyed. $18 for both plates was a great value lunch for the Wharf, excited to try the dinner offerings

Went with my husband for DC Winter Restaurant Week lunch. The value is good — $25 for a three-course meal — and the service and atmosphere were excellent.

That said, the food was underwhelming. For appetizers, the fried mushroom portion was very small, and the breading was extremely thick and heavy. You mostly taste the breading rather than the mushroom itself. The potato appetizer was a cold dish and lacked flavor — maybe just not to our taste, but we didn’t enjoy it.

For entrées, the fish portion was very small, just a tiny piece, and while it was okay, it wasn’t memorable. The seafood pasta was the standout and probably the best dish of the meal.

Overall, great service and a nice atmosphere, but the food didn’t live up to expectations. It may just not be a restaurant for us.

Ambience – The restaurant has an alluring aesthetic with a nautical yet trendy vibe. It was fairly quiet during our visit, with only a few other tables occupied, which made for a relaxed dining atmosphere.

Service – Excellent. Our server was attentive, personable, and very knowledgeable about the menu, which really enhanced the overall experience.

Food – This was the area that left the most to be desired.

• Catfish Sandwich – Fell short compared to other fried catfish sandwiches I’ve had. The portion of lettuce overwhelmed the sandwich, and the use of Chesapeake catfish didn’t deliver on flavor.

• Breakfast Biscuit Sandwich – The biscuit itself was very dry, especially the bottom, which made it difficult to eat. The house-made sausage was more burger-like in texture and flavor than a traditional sausage patty, which could benefit from a menu note to set expectations.

• Johnny Cakes – These didn’t quite capture the taste of a traditional hoecake. They could have used more honey and fruit to balance out the flavor profile.

Decent. For the money our catfish was only decent. Small and fried a bit too hard/dark, which is weird cause I love fried catfish. The appetizers were better than the main. My wife says it’s that kinda place, little more expensive with smaller portions. OK. Beautiful location. Parking on street won’t be easy.

This was my first time going to Fish Shop and it was during Winter Restaurant Week which can be a hit or miss time to experience a new place. Both the mushroom and chesnut soup and Tilefish were delicious if slightly a bit heavy handed with the salt. The sticky toffee pudding barely had any toffee sauce and was just a spiced dry cake – good flavor but a true sticky toffee pudding has a significant amount of sauce. I reached for my glass of water after eating the cake given the dryness.

If you’re looking for a nice place by the Wharf I would consider Fish Shop but I can’t say I’ll be making another trip any time soon.

Note, parking garage #3 sits underneath the building but it is pricey, particularly Th – Sa. Try to find street parking and walk.

We stopped by for brunch and really enjoyed the atmosphere — calm, stylish, and well-designed with a relaxed energy that makes you want to linger a little longer.

The service was solid all around. Everyone was friendly and attentive. Our server, Mariah, took very good care of us and even joked, “like Mariah Carey” — a nice little touch of personality

Now, the food… it was okay maybe just not quite my flavor profile thou — could be a matter of personal taste. I might come back for dinner next time and give their seafood specialties a go, since brunch might not have been the best representation.

Overall, a good experience in a beautiful space with great service.

My best friend wanted to honor her late mother on her birthday with a special dinner out, as dining out was something her mom truly loved. Fish Shop turned out to be the perfect place to celebrate her memory and share this meaningful evening together. The staff had great energy, were super knowledgeable, and helped us pick dishes we loved. The soft-shell crab starter was fried to perfection with a delicious sauce and pickles, and the smoked trout spread with grilled bread was another favorite. For mains, we shared the crab pasta and rockfish—both excellent. Dessert sealed the deal: house-made chocolate ice cream with olive oil and sea salt that was unforgettable. We also enjoyed a fun bottle of wine recommended by the som, which paired beautifully with everything. I’ll definitely be back!

Soooooo good! I was craving a flavorful pescatarian meal, and this restaurant delivered exactly that with its incredible and unique flavors. The service was wonderful and the space itself is absolutely beautiful. I started with the squash blossom, which truly was the best bite I’ve had in a long time. I wish it were on the main menu—it’s too good to be limited to the lunch special! I also had the catfish with fries, which was a delicious and interesting take on a classic dish. For a more adventurous option, I tried the toad squab with a fennel salad, and it was also exceptionally tasty and the crab salad that looked and tasted beautiful! Im coming back again soon! Oh and did i mention the fried items are glutenfree! Made my day!
