Eating here was a nice experience and I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh and flavorful the food tasted! There was no wait when we got there around 5 PM or so, but the crowd started trickling in soon afterwards. It took no time for the waitress to take our order, get our drinks and appetizers, and our entrees within a reasonable amount of time. All of the entrees we had served large portions, so it’s definitely a good place if you have a large appetite!
They start you with the swamp soup regardless of the entree…and I have to say, it was unexpectedly good especially considering the dead simple ingredients. We followed up with the Cheese Curds and the Gator bites. Both were delicious, flavorful, juicy, and fresh!
I had the relatively safe option for the entree: a River Cheeseburger sans pickles or mustard (personal preference) with a side of fries. The burger was larger than I was expecting and I couldn’t finish it in one sitting, but it was pretty good. I bummed a piece of the fried catfish and like the Gator Bites, the breading was well seasoned and flavorful.
I definitely would recommend this place if you’re looking for a hole-in-the-whole local place to go out and have a bit with family and friends. It also has a bar too if hanging out and watching sports is your thing too.

The OMG shrimp poboy with crawfish sauce is to die for. The hush puppies are some of the best We have ever eaten. The swamp soup is flavorful and hot. The server was 2nd to none. If I could give this place a 10 out of 5 I would. I guarantee you will not leave hungry. Maybe you might not be able to get up to leave . Reasonable prices. Pleasant atmosphere. We will be back. We had the grilled white fish with the Cajun sauce. Also came with coleslaw and hush puppies and soup. They have some of the best hush puppies I’ve had. The grilled white fish was OK with creole sauce was ok. Not my favorite.The coleslaw was really good too. Overall, not too bad

Wow! What a great experience. Absolutely you can get a drink and a quality meal and be out the door for less than $25 a person with tax and tip. The food was GREAT! They gave us samples of the chef’s special “swamp soup” and it was a culinary experience I am not soon to forget. Our service Garçon was friendly, fast, and professional. The portions are large. Pictured is a half eaten senior fish fry. Check it out for a quality dining experience that doesn’t break the bank.

We ate lunch here for the first time because of high recommendations from friends back home. This is there go to place when in Gulf Shores. We weren’t disappointed. The hush puppies were delicious. My husband and I shared The Nola and a 1/2 shrimp & 1/2 fish basket. It all very good. I would recommend this little gem. It may become our go to place too.

Our family who lives here had never been but mentioned they were always busy so they were likely very good. They were spot on! The staff was very nice, we were seated immediately and our service was great. The gator bites were amazing and in general the breading across all the fried foods was unique and tasty. I enjoyed everything I had here – great choice!

We ate here last night (1/15/26). First, I would like to say we had no clue the restaurant closed at 8 PM. The door and online says 9, online says 9 and nobody told us different. So unbeknownst to us they stayed open a little later for our family to eat. I’m so sorry we were “those” people!! Thank you guys so much for that!!!
The food was absolutely amazing. After our eight hour drive over we were just looking to fill our bellies. The women that helped us were all wonderful and super nice and super courteous. Everything about the place was awesome. They are totally not lying. You should definitely try the swamp soup!!! It’s delicious!!! Fish River Grill is one of those places that lives up to the hype. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and generously portioned, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. The famous swamp soup alone is worth the visit, but everything we tried was cooked perfectly and full of Southern seafood flavor. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, the staff is friendly and efficient, and even when it’s busy, the wait is well worth it. A true local favorite and a must-stop if you’re in the area.

I ordered the Grouper Dinner. In all my years of eating grouper, I’ve never eaten grouper that tasted this fishy. As a matter of fact, I’m not convinced the fish I was served was actually grouper. My experience was really bad. I will definitely never eat here again.
