Their beer selection was limited, would’ve liked to see more in-house brews but what I had was good.
The BBQ was quite good. I got the sampler and the brisket had a great smoke ring and was nice and juicy. My only complaint was that it came out cold.
The Chopped chicken was also very flavorful but a bit cold.
The pulled pork was excellent all around (and not cold).
The slaw was good but tasted a bit metallic, like it had been sitting i in a refrigerator for a little too long.
The portions were huge, this seemed like it was intended for 2 people. id like to see a smaller sampler for one on the menu.
The sauces needed work. The hot was a little too hot, and the sweet sauce was a little too tomato forward. No carolina style yellow sauce which was a miss.
The food… cold/frozen bread? Not sure what I thought about that. The brisket which was served Saturday only was dry to where I could not finish it. Not your traditional North Carolina slaw. Gave it a try and it was not bad but not used to it!
Their fries were seasoned well and very crispy!
The sauces were not at all amazing. It’s like store bought put into squeeze bottles.
I’d come back and try the night vibe and see how it goes.
Tried this place out for date night and was not disappointed. Everything from the service and ribs to the BBQ sauce was outstanding.
Rib plate – fall off the bone excellently seasoned ribs. The meat doesn’t even need any sauce but I did want to try the western sauce and wow, not overly sugary like some BBQ sauces can be. Absolutely delicious. Only added to the flavor of the ribs versus covering them up.
Salt n’ pepper Catfish – boneless filet with a very crispy exterior on a bed of fries and hush puppies. Hush puppies get a 10/10 for me but my partner wasn’t as into them. That was fine cause I ate them all. Crinkle cut fries, can’t go wrong. The fish itself was light and flaky considering it was catfish and the tartar sauce they serve is light and paired well!
Boiled Peanuts – I could have drank that collard sauce it’s in. In fact, my partner had to take it away from me because I did just that towards the end.
Cornbread – a jalapeño cheddar I think with just enough sweetness to keep me coming back.
Sweet tea – phenomenal. Not overly sweet, again this place knows how to season and flavor everything.
Anyways, long story short – I will be back on a Saturday to try their Brisket ASAP.
It’s a cool, laid-back vibe, and I would go by after work just to hang out and have a beer. It’s a large indoor space, a nice bar, and a good-sized patio. There are picnic tables along the river.
I can tell you the wait was very much worth it. The staff was incredible and super friendly. The location is beautiful, inside and out. Want to eat inside, out front, out back, down by Dutchman’s creek? No problem.
The main event, the food. Fantastic, superb, amazing, I don’t have enough words to describe the food. I am beyond excited to go back and try the full menu, I will be back and soon.
Living less than 5 minutes away, I already know I am in trouble. This will be a weekly stop for sure!
The BBQ was some of the best I’ve ever had, it didn’t need sauce to be amazing, but the sauce puts it on another level, eastern, western or South Carolina. I tried all 3 at once on a sandwich and that’s the play. The mac and cheese was different than any restaurant I have had. It was super homemade and rich and dang that cheese! The flavor and tenderness of the rib was wow! I have been looking for a place to get great ribs and now I have it. Most places are either too cooked or not great sauce. Firehawk’s ribs both tender and full of flavor!
My husband and I order out once each week, always on Friday, a no cook night after a long week. I ordered online on the restaurants website. My husband ordered Ribs with 6 bones, slaw, pickled vegetable and cornbread. Ribs had a smoky flavor, which he liked, but were very dry and chewy. The slaw and pickled vegetable were missing and the top layer/crust of the cornbread was like rubber on both orders. My order was missing the greenbean casserole. The french fries were hard and cold. I received a text notification that my order was ready 9 minutes after I ordered (I prepaid and tipped), even though online it said 20-25 minutes. My guess is we got items that had been laying around for awhile. We are so disappointed. We won’t order from here again.
