Vincent DePhilippis Born in New York NY, raised in Naples Italy returned to New York City at the age of 18. Vincent DePhilippis and Madeleine Manfredi from Nimes France met in New York NY (Mamma and Papa) married in 1925, then settled in Westchester Pennsylvania. Then moved to San Diego in 1947 where they opened an Italian market named Cash & Carry Italian foods on India Street in San Diego. 1950 was the beginning of what has become a very successful line of family restaurants that are today know as Filippi’s Pizza Grottos that are owned and operated by original family members of the founders. The DePhilippis family would like to welcome you and your family to visit our restaurants to enjoy our traditional old Italian family recipes.

The pizza is so big, that 4 adults could not finish it, let alone finish 1 single slice. And it is loaded with cheese which is just the way I like it. The meatball and Torpedo sandwiches were to big for 1 person to finish. And the dinner plate was so huge 2 people din not finish it. We’ll worth the money we paid. And the price was very reasonable compared to other places we’ve had pizza from. My family will definitely be making the 43 mile drive to go Dine in there.

Amazing Pizza. Their deep dish is crazy good. Staff were friendly. Service is always fast. Their quality of food is always top notch. I would never order on uber eats because of all the crazy fees, two pies ended up at $118 which is wild. This pizza was great the day after as well. Overall this place has amazing food, but the star of their show is their deep dish pizza.

The restaurant (founded in 1950) has old school, retro vibes. We had the lunch portion of lasagna, which was huge. The meat sauce over the cheese and noodles was really good. The staff was friendly and on top of the service.

I have been going since I was 7 years old, not only does the pizza come out hot, but it always comes out great, the Lasagna, Manicotti, and Spaghetti are bomb. Service is fast and attentive. If you love cheese order extra cheese on your pizza. If your not a cheese person just keep it regular. Love the atmosphere here. Best Filippis in San Diego.. non bias here!

This place was surprisingly one of the BEST pizzas I’ve ever had in my life and I’ve been to NY who has nothing on this place. The spaghetti was simple but so good with the meatballs and sauce, and the staff was friendly and patient with our large party. I will definitely be going back because it’s worth the 1hr drive.

Me and family just had a birthday party for my sister in law’s 70th birthday now and I can’t wait to give a good comment especially with Ashley and the other server who made our experience there so satisfying.
I ordered all white pizza which the chef gave a good amount of mozzarella and the antipasto salad my fave was so good as always with the right amount of dressing.
We had a great time and just a nice place to celebrate any occasion with really generous servings.

I’ve never done a review before, but I couldn’t help myself bc I had to do one on this place.
Definitely five star everything, best restaurant. My man en I went earlier to this place en we absolutely loved it definitely a great place for pizza en beer date. Also there cheese garlic bread sticks are so yummy. En costumer service was beyond perfect really sweet en kind people working there. The music & vibes were definitely classic.
