Q!
I ordered the Chile en Nogada which is an incredibly complex and aromatic dish of stuffed poblano pepper filled with pork, beef, plantain, peach, pear, apple, and raisins topped with a equally complex and aromatic white sauce made from walnuts and almonds with a sprinkling of fresh pomegranate seeds.
The dish itself came with rice, beans, and a mix of fresh lettuce and tomato. The beans were incredible which I find is often not the case in most Mexican restaurants I’ve tried in the states (best beans are often found in the home) but this restaurant delivered some of the best cooked beans I’ve had in my life. The rice as well was delicious and well prepared.
Along with the Chile en Nogada, I also ordered the Tamarindo agua fresca that was made fresh (not the packaged mix) and was the perfect blend of sour and sweet and so worth it.
Those who came with me ordered the carnitas tacos which they were equally impressed by.
The table also shared their chips and salsa appetizer and it was simple and delicious as well.
I’ll be back anytime I’m up in Santa Fe whether that be for pleasure or for work.
And don’t let price discourage you from having the experience. The complexity of the dish brings an understanding of where the price comes from and the taste will make you forget you even had to pay for the experience.
To note: the picture doesn’t give justice to how truly wonderful this dish is.
Sweet Roasted pumpkin with caramel sauce for dia de Los Muertos. This is my new fav Mexican spot in Santa Fe i will be back!!!
It was a bit pricey for what it was. all.in all the bill came to $42 just for me. I’d have tried another dish if I had time as I think the restaurant has potential.
Decor is as different as the flavor. It’s very small and that might turn people off, but they really pack people in.
The party next to me had trouble communicating with the waiter. And since they only have one waiter and the restaurant filled up, service wasn’t very attentive.
