Fette Sau (German for “fat pig”) is a barbecue restaurant specializing in dry-rubbed meats, sourced from small, local farms and smoked in-house. The menu changes daily, with a rotating selection of meats available for purchase by the pound. The sides are kept simple and include burnt end baked beans, broccoli salad, pickles, sauerkraut and potato chips. The drink list offers nine beers on tap, plus a cider, and an extensive list of North American bourbon and whiskeys. Picnic tables are the primary form of seating, giving the restaurant a communal atmosphere. The space has an industrial feel, with its reclaimed wood, cement floor and exposed beam ceiling.

Dry-rubbed meat smoked in-house, beer & whiskey served in industrial-rustic digs with picnic tables.

I tried this spot for take-out and it was fantastic—really captures that true BBQ flavor. The brisket sandwich was the star, absolutely delicious. The BBQ chicken was also really good, especially in a roll with some sauce—so satisfying. The wings and mac & cheese were decent, nothing standout, but overall the experience was great. The vibe of the place when I went to pick up my order was welcoming, and I’ll definitely be coming back!

This is a cool BBQ spot. Admittedly, I did not get any barbecue this time around, but I went for drinks and apps. (I’ll be back to try the barbecue). I did not like the pickles, they had a weird taste to them. The deviled eggs were good, the zucchini was very good and I don’t even like zucchini much, nuts and jerky were also good. Our drinks were yummy and I liked the overall vibe of the place.

We tried the brisket, smoked chicken, and smoked buffalo wings, along with mac and cheese, half-sour pickles, and cornbread on the side.

The wings were absolutely outstanding—perfectly smoky with just the right amount of heat. All the meats were incredibly juicy and flavorful, with spices that were spot-on. The atmosphere added to the experience, featuring rustic wooden tables and chairs that gave the place a warm, inviting feel.

Highly recommended for anyone who loves quality barbecue in a relaxed setting.

Different Cheesesteak’esque sandwich #1238. I went at happy hour. I miss happy hour. $8 burnt ends sandwich. $7 Old Fashion. You know I love those prices. I love the decor. The sandwich comes with spicy slaw. I am spicy adverse, and I liked this slaw. It was more flavorful than spicy. I liked the Fette Sau sweet sauce. You gotta love a nice soft potato roll. Good day to be me.

My friends and I dined here yesterday, celebrating a friend’s bday!

Very chill vibes. Wheelchair accessible!

Most tables are inside the restaurant, but there are some outdoor tables as well. The inside was rather too dark, so we chose the table outside.

If you choose an outdoor table, I think you can bring your doggos. I saw one party sitting at the outdoor table with their dog.

I love-love-loved their brisket!!! Fatty and juicy — it was my favorite among all the others my friends and I ordered. My favorite sides were sliced red cabbages and potato salad.

You order first at the cashier, get a number tag for your table, and make payment first. The restaurant staff brings you the platter to your table when it’s ready.

Definitely, not the most suitable place for vegetarians. The veggie sides will be the only edible menu options.

Water is self served.

Unique barbecue spot in the city. Close to the Fillmore. We both got the brisket sandwich. The flavor was spectacular, just a little fatty for our liking. The Mac and cheese was divine. The chocolate chip cookie was okay. Overall, we would recommend dining here.

I really wanted to like Fette Sau, but the food just didn’t land for me. The cornbread was dry to the point of crumbling apart, the pulled pork had a slimy texture that made it hard to eat, and overall everything just felt a bit off. The mac and cheese was the only thing that stood out creamy and well-seasoned, but it wasn’t enough to save the meal. The space itself is cool and the staff were fine, but for the price and reputation, I expected a lot better.

Great food. Been a few times and the food is always delicious.
The vibe is nice with the option of inside or outside seating.
I had a good and not so great experience with the staff but overall it was a good experience.

Definitely would be back.

I remember when this place first opened years ago, the first location of a new, hip BBQ joint outside of NYC where it started. It’s not a bad spot and they try their best. However, it’s pricey and there are better BBQ joints in the Philly area. Honestly, you’re paying as much for their location/real estate as you are the food here. Great BBQ places – in Memphis, North Carolina, Kansas City, and throughout Texas, are never in pricy, downtown areas or the “hottest” new trendy neighborhood for a reason. Not an insult to the staff/managers – just reality. They do their best and if you’re in the area and want some BBQ you’ll be satisfied, but not amazed.

Atmosphere and service were great. The old fashioned I got during happy hour was well made—I believe it was on tap and was only $5. I’m giving four stars because we ordered the burnt end sliders and what we got was more like pulled pork, it was good but not the same. The deviled eggs were great and the chicken legs were also quite tasty but nothing special. I’m looking forward to giving them another chance and hopefully I will get the burnt ends and not pulled pork
