Such a great experience! We stopped in for an impromptu anniversary lunch and were pleasantly surprised by how delicious the food was and how lively it was for a weekday lunch. We hadn’t been back since the previous ownership and were very impressed. Highly recommend popping in — we’ll definitely return!

Fernandez of Matawan is hands down our favorite spot! We’ve celebrated my son’s birthday here two years in a row and come often for casual dinners — the food is always fresh, flavorful, and consistently amazing. The staff is beyond attentive and truly makes you feel at home. Every visit feels special — we absolutely love it here!

Attended a Baby shower at Fernandes and was definitely treated to a fantastic meal from start to finish. The bread and butter sitting at the table as we sat down to eat were Portuguese rolls that I personally love. The waiters were attentive and quick to bring food and drinks. Our water glasses remained full throughout the meal. The Calde verde soup was so creamy and perfectly seasoned. The seafood appetizer course was over the top good. There were garlicky shrimp, calamari fried to perfection, mussels in a brightly spiced red sauce and a duo of cubed meats tossed in a very addictive sauce. My main course of steak was cooked exactly as I asked with sides of veggies and roasted soft pillows of potatoes. And of course the drinks were not to be out done by the food as the red wine sangria was delicious and afterwards the Cappuccino that I was served was so yummy. My dessert choice was tiramasu and it did not disappoint. From start to finish this restaurant has delicious food, great service with friendly staff.

We had a fantastic dining experience here! The food was outstanding with generous portions, and the service was warm and welcoming. The waitstaff were genuinely friendly, and we even got to chat with Carlos, the chef, who is from Porto and has been cooking since a young age. His passion for authentic Portuguese cuisine shines through—dining here felt just like being back in Lisbon and Porto.
We loved every dish, from the flavorful paella and stuffed brown crab to the perfectly grilled bronzino, tender octopus, and hearty beef tripe. Although we were quite full after the main courses, we couldn’t resist trying two desserts: the flan and mango coconut mousse. Both were absolutely delicious!
We’re so glad to have found this gem near home here in NJ. Highly recommend!

This is one of the worst restaurants I ever ate at in my entire life! People that go here obviously don’t care about quality food, and are just coming because of the big portions! I had the Chilean sea bass topped with artichokes. The Chilean sea bass was NOT fresh and was SOGGY! It was topped in a disgusting tasting sauce, and an assortment of vegetables that tasted like they came out of a can! The side of Spanish potatoes were bland, and not crisp! For dessert I had the chocolate peanut cake that was HORRIBLE! It was stale as can be! The cake was all dried out! It was the worst money ever spent! I would of rather went to a diner! I’m on my way home with the worst belly ache from this place!

We have been going to Fernandes for years at its other locations. We were very excited that one opened closer to home. This location is as good as all of the other locations. Food and service are top notch. Always a ton of food and fun! The ribeye and shrimp on the tile is my personal favorite as it is done perfectly to your preference and the garlic sauce is delicious. Paelle is always a great value for money – it could probably feed 2-3 people. We’ll be back!

Met up with friends for dinner. Our first time! We started with some sangria which was absolutely delicious. Next we ordered the following which were all amazing: salmon with crabmeat, ossobuco, seafood paella, and scallops with risotto. After dinner our server showed us the desserts. OMG!! We each got something different, key lime pie, cookies and cream, flan, and Spanish cheesecake. All were delicious! Also, we were able to take our time and we never felt rushed. The owner stopped by a few times to make sure everything was fine. I highly recommend Fernandes! You will LOVE it!

The wagyu ribeye was a great steak! The medium temperature was more like a medium rare, which was great. The suckling pig was also a great dish, I would have like the skin to have been crispier. Overall, the meals were very good
