We walked in and ordered a couple of appetizers.
And let me tell you the STAR of the night was the CALAMARI .
Woahhhh. The texture?? Beautiful. Every calamari I’ve had before was either too oily or straight-up rubbery with that weird stretchy feel. But this one? Perfectly cooked. Soft, light, and honestly food coma inducing. Damn.
Then came the entrées. My boyfriend ordered Pad Thai “I’ll just go with something basic,” he said. We all expected exactly that. Wrong again.
This Pad Thai reminded all of us of home. If you’ve ever had those spicy, wok-style “bandi noodles” back in India (that’s what my friend calls them), you’ll get it. Same comfort, same punch just with a Thai twist. Absolute surprise hit.
Also , the fork they served with it? Looked like Aquaman’s trident We’re never forgetting that.
And then… Kow Soi. DAMNNNN. The portion alone had my mouth open for a solid few seconds. And the taste? I couldn’t stop talking about the broth it was that good. Rich, comforting, perfectly balanced. The chicken? Fall-off-the-bone level tenderness. Like have you heard of poultry doing that? Probably slow-cooked or pressure-cooked, but honestly, I didn’t care I just enjoyed it in every possible way. Beautiful.
We also ordered Fern Thai fried rice and Panang curry. Both were genuinely delicious. The Panang was thick, creamy, and melted in your mouth. If you love coconut-milk-based curries, this one is a must especially paired with that fragrant jasmine rice. Just wow. Be prepped to take a togo , the portions are
Lastly , We had Thai tea , wished it came in a bucket , No shame
That night was purely about appreciating food. No side conversations, no distractions just us, sitting there, impressed bite after bite.
I’ve already decided I’m giving this place a life.
Which is just my way of saying I’m coming back. Again and again. And I’m bringing everyone with me. ❣️
Tip the servers
The crab rangoons were bomb dot com—perfectly crispy, flavorful, and addicting. And the pad see ewe? Hands down one of the best I’ve ever had. That’s always my benchmark for a good Thai spot, and Fern Thai passed with flying colors. I went with a level 2 spice (which was perfect for this white guy) and it still had a great kick without being overpowering.
The service was equally great—our waiter was friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was spot on.
Please, give this place more business. It’s a hidden gem that deserves way more love.
There’s tons of solid Thai options in Seattle of course, but my friend and I really enjoyed the meal and Fern Thai is near the top of my list.
I’d recommend the duck curry over the holy basil which I found to be a bit heavy with the sauce, though still really tasty. I’ll definitely be coming back to try some of the other dishes on the very extensive menu.
The ambience of the restaurant is modern yet cozy, with warm lighting and tasteful decor that creates a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. It’s a great spot to unwind, whether you’re out for a casual dinner or catching up with friends. The service was excellent — staff were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu, making the dining experience even better. I also appreciated how clean and well-organized everything was, from the cutlery to the overall setup.
Overall, Fern Thai Eatery & Bar is a hidden gem that combines authentic Thai flavors with a fun and comfortable setting. It’s definitely a place I’d recommend for anyone looking to enjoy delicious Thai food in a stylish, welcoming environment. I’ll definitely be coming back!
Ambiance: 4.5/5
The vibe is cozy yet modern, with soft lighting and thoughtful decor that sets a relaxing tone without trying too hard. It’s casual enough for a weekday dinner, but intimate enough for date nights or small group gatherings.
Authenticity: 5/5
The flavors here are deeply rooted in traditional Thai cuisine. Every dish we ordered had the kind of balance and intensity you’d expect from a Thai kitchen that respects its culinary roots. The curry in particular showcased the kind of complexity and heat that tells me they’re using authentic spice blends and cooking methods.
Flavor: 5/5
The curry was a standout—rich, aromatic, and finished with just the right level of kick. The heat was tailored perfectly to our preference thanks to the server’s recommendation, which shows attention to detail and care in execution. Every bite felt intentional and layered, not just spicy for the sake of it.
Service: 5/5
Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and made excellent recommendations. They guided us through spice levels and made sure our dishes arrived promptly and in sync. That kind of thoughtful service enhances the entire dining experience.
Cost: 4.5/5
For Capitol Hill, Fern Thai is well-priced. Portions are generous, and the quality more than justifies the bill. This is high-level Thai food that doesn’t require a special occasion to justify the cost.
In short, Fern Thai impressed me on all fronts. I’ll absolutely be returning soon to explore the rest of the menu. If you’re looking for Thai food done right in Seattle, this place should be at the top of your list.
We sat down and waited about 10 minutes for a server to come to us. She took our drink and food order – still had an attitude, btw. We ordered Spring rolls, Roast Duck Curry, and Chicken Thai Fried Rice.
The food came out within 15 minutes. Our drinks still have not arrived. The Thai fried rice was OVERLY spicy – I am a west indian man from NY who grew up eating everything with pepper sauce, and even this was hotter than it should be. I specifically told the server NO SPICE. When I asked him what level he used, he said 0, clearly not true, so we sent it back. He said that he couldn’t make it less spicy, which to me doesn’t make sense, but okay.
The spring rolls were mehhh. The roast duck curry came out, and it was semi-cold, not warm but cold. I didn’t even bother asking to warm it up, with the fear that something unsanitary would be done to the food. This entire time, our drinks still did not come, so we asked about them. Another server mentioned that no drinks were put in for our table – 40 minutes now. We cancelled and just asked for the bill. Nothing was offered, not even our drinks to help with the bad experience.
On our way out, the gentleman at the front was so “busy” shuffling papers on the table, pretending to be busy so he didn’t have to look at us and say have a good night because he was probably embarrassed. The restaurant was also empty.
It could’ve been a bad night for the team; however, nothing was done to flip things around after showing frustration. I wouldn’t recommend any place to eat, drink, or shop where the staff isn’t trained in basic customer service.
We started with the spring rolls, which were very good. For dinner, I tried the Pad Kee Mao with seafood at a #2 out of 5 spicy levels. It was very good as well. My wife had the Pineapple Fried Rice with chicken, which was HUGE, but she enjoyed some of it, lol.
Overall, it was a good experience I’d recommend if you’re nearby.
