Social Profile:

World War 2 Veteran, Fermin Vasquez, opened a modest grocery store named Short Stop Grocery in September 1968. Fermin’s wife, Vicky, noticed several students from the nearby Sudderth Elementary School would stop in to buy items during their off-campus lunch time. Having her own children to feed, she decided the students needed a home cooked meal, too. Her lunch menu consisted of menudo, hamburgers, frito pies, chili dogs, and various burritos. Much to her surprise, the students began to bring their parents in the evening to sample the same savory menu. After the passing of Vicky in 1993 and Fermin in 2011, their legacy has been carried on by their daughter Elidia (Lily) O’Harrow, who continues to be the matriarch of Fermin’s Restaurant.

We have been here several times while traveling cross country. The tortilla chips are delicious, thin, crispy and warm upon arrival. The guacamole was top notch. Both of our meals were great and we treated ourselves to sopapillas for dessert – highly recommend splurging on them. They are delightful, soft, little pillows of love!

For a small town with not a lot of restaurant options, this is definitely one of the better places to eat. Prices feel a bit high, but considering how costs are rising everywhere, it’s understandable. I’ve never had an issue with the wait staff — they’re friendly and attentive. Food always arrives fresh and on time, and they’re careful with food allergies if you let them know.

The only minor downside is the limited selection of condiments like hot sauce or steak sauce, but they don’t mind if you bring your own. Overall, a solid dining experience and one I’d recommend.

This is a great little Mexican food place! The service is great, the queso and salsa are awesome and I got my food very quickly and was super hot! I ordered the trio quesadillas and they were at my table in 10 minutes! They were very good and so was the rice!

I was really hoping this place would have carne guisada so that was a bit of a letdown but I figured I could find something else no problem. I tried the Asado and just wasn’t a fan of that. The rice definitely could’ve been a lot better! It was really bland and overcooked. And I’m just not a fan of the salsa here at all. I feel like there’s definitely room for improvement. Especially considering I’ve had the same issue both times that I’ve been here. Maybe I’ll give this place one more shot but I wasn’t really too impressed either time with the food so I don’t know. The service was excellent so I’ll give you guys that but that’s about it. I really just wish the salsa was better or at least have another option. That would be really nice. That’s what kills it for me along with the mediocre rice.

Food was great. Everyone was super friendly and it wasn’t too loud for lunch time. Food was fast to come out and refills were on point. I recommend the combo 2 plate. Chile was extra breaded but I got passed that with some salt.

We got off US 20 Exit 83 on way to el paseo and drove 3 plus miles. Cute old town with big history. Found Fermin’s on line. Wonderful lunch of taco and Chili Verde which we split. The chips were fresh and light. The picture of salsa below. Very tasty but very hot and spicy. Eyes will water. Tongue will ring but after awhile you get used to. Picture of chili verde gone. Delicious. Dessert sopapilla was last for road. Whole check with extra tortillas $22.90. Excellent service with Sondra. Most beautiful decorated Xmas tree EVER. Merry Xmas

Came here on recommendation from hotel clerk when I stopped in Monahans for the night. Chips and salsa served up right away. Got a small queso which was a little different from back home, but still really good.

Special of the night was street tacos, so I went with the beef fajita version of them. Delicious! Came with a side of beans and rice.

Atmosphere was typical Mexican restaurant, combo of booths and tables with ability to handle large parties.
