HOLY COW, HOLY DEER AND EVERY OTHER HOLY ANIMAL THIS PLACE IS GOLDEN GOD TIER!! Maybe I’m biased because I was treated very specially by our wonderful server and just blown away by the ambience.

Wandering in off the street during the farmers market to use the bathroom and grab a drink turned into a full on 4th dimension experience. I had the Himalayas Most Wanted cocktail and just couldn’t bring my taste buds into belief with how good it was. The combinations of different flavors were unlike anything I had ever had before. And don’t even get me started on the bread pudding.

I also got to meet the taxidermy artist who supplied some of the awesome creations that reside in the restaurant. Giving real proof to the boots on the ground approach this place took when it came to decorating. Including thrifting the books your check comes in.

I wish I got our servers name, but she was a gem! Thank you so much for such a wonderful birthday experience ✌️

We’ve wanted to try this spot for awhile now and finally made it in. Ambiance is awesome, the scavenger hunt for our daughter was a lot of fun. I like that they kept a lot of the MoTav vibe but gave their great twist on it. Cocktail menu is great. Comfortable space. Service was top notch.
Food though is okay. I respect their cooking method as the meats are super tender, could be seasoned much better. Taco ’bout delicious was cooked great, but lacked flavor other than meat fat. Thank goodness for the pickled onions to give it some bite. The duck confit was equally flavor lacking, cooked great but just boring, definitely should take it off the menu as it is an insult to duck. Sadly the food highlight was the food we ordered for our 4 year old. The lil smashy meal was great. The burgers like everything else were cooked perfectly, pink in the middle, but they also had seasoning and sauce! Their feral sauce is fantastic. The fries were really good as well.
Our friends said it was overpriced and mediocre. I think their pricing is fair, but they need to do better on flavors. The meats were cooked well but just lacking even salt, and I generally stay away from saltier food. Service was top notch and the place is a lot of fun. I’d stick to the kids menu though apparently.

We came to Feral for dinner. We truly enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant.

It created a classical and elegant European-style atmosphere.

It was a very satisfying meal. The food was delicious with unique ingredients.

The best part was when the waitress brought us the Tulip chocolate mousse dessert. It was not only delicious but also it was very creative and the coolest thing I’ve ever had.

It made our dining experience extremely memorable.

I want to give a special thanks to the two chefs who worked at the Farmer’s Market on July 31st. You helped my husband with your kindness and generosity and you refused a tip. Both of you are amazing and valuable assets to the team and the restaurant.

It’s so much harder to have ATMOSPHERE than food and service. If you invest enough into your food by hiring a great chef and train really great staff then you can have awesome service, but that PLUS atmosphere is a different ballgame.

You won’t be surprised when I say that THIS PLACE has atmosphere. It should be listed in the dictionary definition when the describe the meaning of the word.

Don’t get me wrong–the service from ALL the staff is great. Every time I have looked toward and interacted with staff, I always get a friendly smile and a welcoming gaze. That’s awesome!

And besides the really amazing mocktails (which are not really that easy to do) and the food we had (we had a couple appetizers as we were short on time), we were really very surprised and blown away. Cat’s Meow and Figs of Paradise were the alcohol-free drinks we chose and they were both VERY yummy and mine was served in this really cool bamboo-looking ceramic tiki tall glass–neato!! My wife had the Rabbit Food which is this awesome baked carrot dish with spices that make you go mmmmmmm. And I had the Farmers’ Market Board comprised of several pickled veg surprises and hummus with a few pieces of gf bread. Wonderful!

But the real star of the show is the wonderful decor. The menu boasts a scavenger hunt and encourages you to “stay curious” as you look through every corner and objet d’art on walls and above you and beside you. One of my favorite things are the animal portraits and you really have to see them to understand why because they give off this vibe like we’re in a very interesting Lewis Carroll alternate reality where familiar things are impossibly different and fun!

And on this trip, we sat in the Upstair. Not many places feature such a fun…feature? Anyway, it was a great vantage point to take in all the cool writing on walls, gigantic mirror behind the bar, and so on! I encourage you to give it a shot because it’s so cozy like the den of your dreams. Love it!

Edit: Came back with some friends thinking our last experience was a one off… there were FLIES in our wine we ordered. See photo. Tried to show our waitress but she wasn’t very concerned. She said “ya I believe you” in a condescending tone and walked away with the glass. Disgusting quality. Even worse service. Wanted to like this place so bad but we won’t be coming back.

Been to Feral 10+ times and it is always super inconsistent. This past visit was the worst. Waited 25 minutes to order our drinks at the bar just for our order to come back wrong. After another 20 minutes for them to fix our order, the drinks were borderline terrible. You could get a better margarita at the gas station down the street than this place. The only drink worth your money here is the Espresso Martini.

The food, environment, and service were perfect for a fancy(ish) date night. Bar back Corey had recommended stopping by, and it was worth it. We were greeted by Izzy who was immediately welcoming. Morgan was our server and helped us navigate the menu and gave great suggestions. Other staff members who went above expectations include Dani and Eli. Food and drinks were amazing! We ordered the Natural Instinct cocktail, a beer, and a cider. For our food we got the Squid Pro Quo and Braise the Bar. Will absolutely be coming back. Zero negative comments about this place.

Had been wanting to try this place since it opened and finally got the chance. Place has a super cool atmosphere and the food was outstanding. Friends and I tried a little bit of everything but for starters the standout was the bread & butter. The short rib tacos were incredible and the beastly burger (feral style w the fried egg added) was unbelievable, definitely up there for one of the top burgers I’ve ever had anywhere. The tigers milk cocktail was also delicious. Cant wait to go back!

The resplendent atmosphere and architecture reminiscence of a speakeasy style with overtones of lighting, complete with a large stuffed animal, staring down at you. That alone is an enticement to check out this newest establishment formerly the Mothers Tavern. The menu is mainly for carnivores, hence the name. I was surprised they didn’t go the extra mile to offer any local grass fed or organic dishes. My friends were happy with the tacos although quite greasy. I would say overall a nice addition to the SLO restaurant offerings. Good luck Feral.

Great overall experience during our first visit (because there will be more!) to Feral Kitchen & Lounge. Our waiter was Jack- super chill, very knowledgeable in both food and drinks, friendly, and attentive to our needs.

We arrived at 6pm on Saturday evening for dinner (01-04-25). No wait time. We were quickly greeted, welcomed in, and sat at a table for 4. I wish we would have sat at a booth. Maybe, we will get lucky next time.

Atmosphere was welcoming and casual. Great decor throughout. Taxidermy pieces with an Eye Spy feel. The setting was dimly lit and intimate. This would make a great dinner date place. The whole place was clean, staff well dressed and professional, and the restroom was clean and well stocked.

Moving on to dinner and drinks….

We had several different drinks. My favorite was the Pandamonia. We also tried the Himalaya’s Most Wanted, Very Demure, and Cali Squeeze on tap. All of them were good but the Pandamonia reigned supreme!

For appetizers we tried the Bone Apetite (bone marrow) , Untamed Tartare, and the Not So Sweet Breads.

Bone marrow was succulent and melt in your mouth good!

I will pass on the Untamed Tartare as it was very mustard forward for my liking and I couldn’t get the traditional taste of a fresh tartare with egg yolk. The fresh meat and yolk flavors got lost in the mustard for me.

The Not So Sweet Breads were 100/10! Best I’ve ever had and highly recommend if you’re an adventurous eater or just want to try something new.

Braise Your Bar was super tender short rib with mashed potatoes and roasted shishito peppers. The portion size was a bit on the smaller size but the taste and tender texture of the short rib made it all worth it! Mashed potatoes were flavorful and creamy. Shishito peppers were roasted to perfection.

Duckin Good- Duck leg confit was tender and flavorful. The entree came with a duck thigh and a hearty serving of cannellini beans, pork jowel, and carrots.

Find Your Mojo- hanger steak grilled with an achiote mojo, topped with chimichurri sauce and avocado, finished with cilantro cream and grilled onions onions in the side. It was finished off with a mount of crispy French fries. You can’t go wrong with that combo! The steak was super tender and the accompanying sauce was delectable! Fries were crispy and salted just right! Generous portion size. I would order this again.

And drumroll please……
Talkin Bout Tacos- these have got to be some of the juiciest short rib tacos I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying! 100/10! The consommé is out of this world good! Not spicy but packed with so much flavor! Paired with pickled onions…. I’ll be dreaming of these for some time!

Unfortunately, we had to save dessert for next time.

Overall, 9/10 for Feral! Great job! They really do offer a feast for all senses! Check out the menu for the scavenger hunt. Good luck finding the three mice playing cards. I left stumped. Until next time! I’d like to sit upstairs to have a couple cocktails before coming back downstairs for dinner time.

Kudos Team Feral! You nailed it!

Stopped in for a light supper and cocktails. The cocktails were excellent. We tried the tigers milk and pandamonia. The Pandamonia was definitely my favorite. The short rib tacos were excellent. The farmers market board had lovely bread and radishes but too many pickled vegetables. Needed more balance of fresh to pickled. The pickling was also a bit one note. Despite this disappointment the atmosphere was delightful and the evening enjoyable.
