Faubourg Montclair is as fine dining as it gets. From the moment you walk through the door until the second you leave, the staff is incredibly attentive and professional—the service is exactly what you’d expect from a top-tier establishment.

The atmosphere is easily one of the most beautiful I’ve ever experienced in a restaurant; it’s fun, vivacious, and feels truly special. As for the food, everything was exceptionally fresh and delicious. I had the Steak Frites, and it was hands-down one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. We finished with a variety of desserts that were the perfect end to an otherworldly meal.

I already yearn to dine here again. If you’re looking for a flawless dining experience in Montclair, this is it.

I recently visited Faubourg in Montclair, expecting a quiet lunch but ended up walking into their brunch service instead. I’ll admit—I’m not much of a brunch person. Most brunch menus feel like fancy versions of egg dishes I can easily make at home.

To my surprise, though, Faubourg’s food turned out to be a pleasant experience. The fig terrine was flavorful with a nice balance of sweetness and richness, while the candied fig was light and refreshing—perfectly dressed without being overpowering.

The real highlight came at the end: the pear cheesecake. It was creamy, beautifully textured, and carried a delicate pear fragrance that lingered with every bite. Easily one of the best desserts I’ve had in a while.

Service was friendly and attentive, and the space itself felt modern yet cozy.

If you’re a brunch lover, this place might be right up your alley during the weekends. If you’re like me—more of a savory lunch type—you’ll still enjoy the quality and calm atmosphere. Just wish the brunch menu leaned a little more into French bistro classics.

Faubourg has been on my list for a while, but I finally got over here last night for dinner/drinks with my top-tier chum who literally went to the school of hospitality before a screening of Hamnet down the street. My takeaway? Like the presumptive Best Picture nominee, uneven but the highs are pretty high.

I really liked the vibes here – it feels (and I think it is) pretty gigantic, with high ceilings and a bougie urban vibe. When we were making reservations earlier in the day, my chum told me we had the option of sitting in the main dining area or the greenhouse, which we ultimately bypassed but it’s cute from what I could see – predictably a bit more of a rustic decor than the other parts of the restaurant. We were seated in a nice corner/curved booth – always a nice perk when both parties can sit in the booth comfortably – and were waited on almost immediately.

This is not a cheap hot dog stand kind of place so if you’re looking for entrees in the $30 range, I’d keep looking. We each got an app ($22 for me at least), and I went with an intriguing item on the seasonal/special menu, the short rib arancini. Wow. Truly delicious and something I considered getting a second round of, despite the hardcore price point. It’s a reminder that when short ribs are done right, it’s a sight and a taste to behold.

For my main course, I went a little aggressive with the much-ballyhooed Steak Frites (I think $76ish or so), which were really tasty, if not necessarily worth the price. The steak was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and was very juicy and tender. The accompanying chimichurri gave it a nice nip and my chum shot quite a few regretful looks my way after getting a slightly underwhelming chicken dish. But that’s a story for a different reviewer.

The drinks for me were ultimately a miss. I was intrigued by the Saints & Sinners cocktail since it featured Angel’s Envy bourbon (and I admittedly thought it might be a subtle homage to Secret Lives of Mormon Wives) but to me was a little too tart, to the point where you couldn’t taste the bourbon at all. I switched to an Old-Fashioned, which my chum ordered right from the get go, and honestly it wasn’t good at all – super aggressive overpour on the bourbon (I think it should have about 1.5 ounces and instead was closer to 3 or 4). Of course my companion tried to defend it, claiming we were getting value for the money, but I could easily just go to a convenience store at my neighborhood Shell or Mobil and purchase some extra gasoline there. Bottom line – in a place like Montclair where the liquor licenses are relatively few and far between, you should know how to make a very basic/mainstream cocktail like this, and they didn’t.

The dessert was mouth-droppingly good, one of the best I’ve had in recent memory, a sentiment shared by my dining companion. We went with the passion fruit cheesecake, which came with a small scoop of gelato. Wow. Once we realized what we were dealing with, the bites got smaller, and the pace of the eating slowed down dramatically for savoring purposes. Truly an experience.

The service was excellent as well, which ultimately made the difference here. Our waiter was attentive without being overbearing, and once or twice another staffer came by to ensure we were being taken care of. Really top-notch stuff which is arguably a significant portion of what you’re paying for here.

There’s a lot to like and I wouldn’t hesitate to come back, but I’m probably bypassing the bar and heading straight to some of the other menu items.

Faubourg hosted a birthday party for me that was perfection. I’m not one to rave about restaurants, but this was a spectacular culinary experience. The food was delicious. Each of my 50 guests thought so. And the service was what really made it. Every minute someone was offering you an hors d’oeuvres or small plate or filling your wine glass. I had a cocktail party setup and it was divine. Adil, the manager, accommodated all my requests and couldn’t have been more attentive. The owner, Joan, worked with me to create a menu that was varied and unique. And oversaw the room layout, the music setup, the balloon positioning…it was beautiful. If you are looking for a venue to celebrate a special life event, then you should choose Faubourg. It will not disappoint.

High end dining from the atmosphere to the impeccable service to the beautiful plating. The food was incredible, maybe the best omelet I’ve ever had? Highly recommend for Sunday brunch, they were able to accommodate a reservation for 8 of us with no difficulty at all.

We sat in the greenhouse, service was wonderful, ambiance was great, there was a 3 piece live musician group. Food was pretty good, well executed and matched, but I think my friends overhyped the place for me and I just expected more… interesting flavors or combinations? Pricing was quite fair.

The atmosphere was quite pleasant. I would suggest making reservations when visiting this establishment. While the food was acceptable, it did not particularly stand out. Our server, Chris or Kris, appeared to be occupied with other matters and was not as attentive to our table as we would have liked. I think she came to the table 2x after flagging her down. She seemed bothered. In reality it affected her tip.
