The food here is real-deal, old-fashioned smoked meat BBQ at its finest — melt-in-your-mouth brisket, tender pulled pork, perfectly seasoned pork ribs, juicy chicken, and smoky sausage that hits all the right notes. But let me tell you… the fluffy jalapeño cornbread and potato salad are the unsung heroes. Honestly, they might even beat grandma’s (sorry, Grandma!).
And don’t sleep on the sweet tea and strawberry tea — Ooh-Wee! They’re brewed fresh and hit the spot.
Owner Ray is one of the kindest, most genuine people you’ll ever meet. Talking with him and hearing his story makes you appreciate the food even more — you can taste the love and care that goes into every plate.
Just a heads up: if you’re planning to visit on a Saturday, go early! Once the BBQ is gone for the day, it’s gone.
We were so blessed to stumble across this gem, and we’ll absolutely be back. Fatguy Southern Kitchen isn’t just a restaurant — it’s an experience that feeds both your stomach and your soul.
We had the privilege of working with Fatguy Southern Kitchen as the exclusive caterer for the Can Am Derby held just outside Nashville in Lascassas, TN—and they absolutely crushed it. For an entire week, they delivered mouthwatering meals, flawless service, and the kind of Southern hospitality that makes you feel like family.
Every dish was a hit—from the smoky brisket to the rich mac & cheese. Their flavors are bold, comforting, and unforgettable. You could tell each meal was made with heart and heritage.
Beyond the food, the team was incredible. They were punctual, professional, and genuinely kind—handling a high-energy event with ease and grace. Whether it was lunch, or dinner, they kept our crew and guests well-fed and smiling.
If you’re planning an event and want catering that’s flavorful, reliable, and full of Southern soul, Fatguy Southern Kitchen is the one to call. They helped make the Can Am Derby feel legendary—and we can’t wait to work with them again.

Fatguy Southern Kitchen in Lascassas is an absolute gem! The food here is true Southern comfort at its best. I tried the white beans, smoked meatloaf, Texas taters, and smoked sausage—and every single bite was incredible. Everything was cooked with so much flavor and love, just like a home-cooked meal.
The owner, Ray, is one of the friendliest people you’ll ever meet, and you can tell he really cares about his food and his customers. The patrons here are just as welcoming, giving the whole place a warm, small-town charm that makes you feel right at home.
If you’re anywhere near Lascassas, do yourself a favor and stop by—you won’t be disappointed!
The food was spectacular
The beans were the absolute best I ever had with large chunks of pulled pork in them. Perfect flavor. I had turnip greens with cornbread which I had been craving. Perfect without bitterness. The meats were exceptional, perfectly cooked. Brisket melts in your mouth.
All in all a wonderful experience of dining, great food and staff.
I will make the drive again
The decor is … eclectic.
I don’t believe I have ever used the phrase “gustatory perfection,” but I will tonight.
The BBQ ribs were perfectly cooked — fall-off-the-bone, but not falling apart, with an excellent smoke ring in the meat. The sauce was delightful in its own right, and paired perfectly with the meat.
The collard greens were utter perfection. Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, perfectly flavored.
The smoked baked beans were astoundingly good. Again, perfectly cooked and seasoned.
The closest I can come to a complaint is the drink options were limited to tea and sugary sodas, so my son and I both had water.
The desserts are absolutely wonderful, as well. I had the banana pudding, and my son and my wife had the Pineapple Sunshine Cake. The pudding was much like my grandma used to make, and the cake was a bundt cake with a sweet citrus-y glaze-y sauce with pineapple chunks.
