This was probably a 3.5 for me but I leaned into 4 for the large portion sizes. This is a busy place and definitely very popular for Chinese American food. I tried the Veggie Spring Rolls which were perfectly crisp and flavorful, no criticism from me. Then had the Basil Beef which also had good flavor and beef that was cooked very well. Lastly, Tangerine Chicken, which frankly was underwhelming for me and I personally would have rather eaten orange chicken from Panda Express. I feel the cost probably was not worth the quality of food that I got, and while it was nice enough for a meal to try it out, I probably won’t return and will seek more cost effective options to get the same if not better quality.

Lunch is served. Malay Fish Fry is always incredible. Depth of flavors. A little spicy but not overpowering. Love the hot and sour soup and so many other items on the menu. Great place for lunch. Happy hour is even better.

I went with my bf a few days ago and I was served by a very kind girl named Kat/Cat—the food and atmosphere was great but she was really the icing on the cake. Very polite and a good conversationalist, give her a raise!! lol

Been here Twice and both have been great, food is very flavorful, service is very good and they serve you very fast. They make their own chili paste oil which was perfect on the sesame shrimp. My mouth just watering by thinking of it. It was spicy but I like a good kick. It was a good portion so it we only was able to eat half and the rest was lunch. I will definitely come back for the happy hours

We ordered the calamari which was fantastic, the eggplant which was fantastic, and the Chef Zhao’s chicken which had no flavor at all. Between the two of us the food was ok. The service was great. My biggest complaint is this restaurant is ABSOLUTELY FREEZING. I’m not sure what they are keeping the thermostat on but I have never been so uncomfortably cold in a restaurant. I was not the only one. A number of people were wearing winter jackets inside when it was 70 outside, and I saw another person go out to their car to get another layer. So management, PLEASE make this restaurant comfortable inside and we will be back. Otherwise, it’s just too uncomfortable.

From start to finish, I loved everything about my experience at Fat Dragon. The space is smaller than I expected, but it works. It gives off a trendy bar vibe with an edge.

Now to the food. Hands down, some of the best Chinese I’ve had. I went with the dumplings and a drink to start. The dumplings were the best I’ve ever had with a slight kick to it. I tried the pepper steak (and let me be clear, I don’t normally order that) because it was highly recommended. This wasn’t your typical takeout version. This was elevated, next-level… tender filet mignon pieces, perfectly cooked and full of rich flavor. I was shocked in the best way. I loved every bite.

Of course, I had to try an espresso martini (you know that’s my go-to), and it did not disappoint. Smooth, bold, and exactly what I needed to start the meal.

I sat at both the table and the bar during my visit. The service was great either way, but the bar is definitely where it’s at if you can grab a seat. More interaction, better energy, and just a great overall vibe.

This place has officially earned a spot on my favorites list. If you haven’t been to Fat Dragon yet, do yourself a favor and go. You won’t regret it.

A Gem in Richmond: A Must-Visit, and Re-visit Restaurant….

Having lived in the Richmond area for many years, I’ve had the pleasure of dining at numerous establishments, but none compare to this hidden gem. I’ve been a loyal patron of this restaurant for as long as I can remember, and I can confidently say it remains one of my all-time favorites, and my list is well thought out!
From the moment you walk in, you are greeted with a warm, inviting atmosphere that immediately makes you feel at home.
The ambiance is a perfect blend of cozy and lively, making it an ideal spot for both a quiet family dinner and a fun night out with friends. The staff are consistently friendly and attentive, always going out of their way to ensure that every visit is as enjoyable as the last.

The food is simply outstanding. Each dish is crafted with care, bursting with flavor, and presented beautifully. It’s clear that the kitchen takes pride in using fresh, high-quality ingredients, and the consistency of their dishes is remarkable. No matter how many times I dine here, I’m always impressed by the quality and taste of the food. Whether it’s a simple meal with the kids or a more elaborate dining experience with friends, there’s something on the menu for everyone to enjoy, as well as the newest creations..

Whether you’re sitting at a table or perched at the bar, the vibe is always welcoming and friendly. The bartenders are skilled and personable, crafting some of the best drinks and cocktails in the area. The drink menu offers a wonderful variety, from classic cocktails to unique, handcrafted creations that pair perfectly with any meal.
What truly sets this restaurant apart, however, is the experience as a whole.

The combination of exceptional food, a welcoming atmosphere, and top-notch service creates an unparalleled dining experience. It’s rare to find a place that gets everything right, but this restaurant does just that, time and time again.

I highly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a place that feels like more than just a restaurant—it’s a second home. Whether you’re a local or just passing through Richmond, make sure to add this spot to your list. It’s a place that I not only recommend but genuinely love, and I look forward to my next visit every time.

The food was just ok… Not bad, but nothing to write home about. Granted, we only had a few items off the menu. The service was great. No wait, timely service, the order was correct and came out quick. The atmosphere was great. The restaurant sports an LGBTQ+ vibe in some ways. Seems like it would be a cool after-hours spot for Chinese and cocktails . I would go back.

I do not understand the positive feedback on this place. Just moved to Richmond and this is the first and only place I’ve eaten at. The most soulless and tasteless food I’ve ever had. I’ll say the portions are fine, but the general tso’s chicken was an embarrassment. The Chinese wonton ramen did not have a lick of seasoning in it. Over boiled meat with no flavor, the broth was just lightly salted boiled water (lightly is an extremely generous compliment). I’ve never wanted to demand a refund from any restaurant in my life but this one is the sole qualifier. Had to throw both dishes away after 4 bites of each.
