This little shop in the middle of nowhere Wyoming is a great place to stop for gifts and delicious ice cream. Wyoming is dotted with little historic places just like this one and summer better than others. My grandparents, he used to stop at this place for ice cream, 70 years ago while driving dirt, roads to get to Yellowstone. It’s awesome that I can share this with my family as well. The souvenirs are rustic, the ice cream is delicious, and the people who have helped us have been very kind.

If you’ve ever driven through a town that’s really not much more than a dot on a map and a four way stop sign, then you’ll feel right at home at the Farson Mercantile! But wait there’s more…soooo much more. For the steady stream of travelers on the way to Yellowstone or any of the other amazing destinations in Wyoming, the Mercantile is a don’t miss stop every time. It’s a convenient watering hole, bio-break and just a cool little store. It’s got the road trip staples like chips, drinks, and t-shirts, but that’s not the real winner. Believe it or not, the ice cream is the star of the show here. Now, don’t go thinking you’re getting gourmet or bougie flavored. It’s the classics….but the real shocker is the shear mass of the servings. Don’t be mislead by the small, med, large. A small is an XXL at any other ice cream parlor and it’s amazing! Don’t miss your chance at a true Wyoming landmark and a great ice cream shop!

I had maple walnut, and my friends had the espresso almond fudge, they both were AWESOME. So yummy!! They were SO generous with the portions we were all cheesing leaving the place, also they young guy was sweet and lady was soft spoken, 10/10 recommend as an ice cream stop or even to grab a bite -they have restrooms:)

The cashier was not pleasant at all. She seemed like she didn’t want to be there. She put our ice cream in a cup without even offering us a cone. The ice cream itself was low to normal grade. We both had an upset stomach after eating it. The coffee was self serve and in no way gourmet. I don’t see how this place has such good reviews!
The bathroom was nice and clean. There was a good area to walk our dog.

We stopped by here twice on our way to Riverton and back home to UT. Both times have not disappointed. They have been so respectful, the ice cream was very creamy and good and we got the custom pizzas and was good as well. Highly the best spot to go to whenever you can stop by!

It’s located on the corner of 2 busy highways and easy to drive on by…..but you’ll be sorry you did! Whether on vacation or just driving by, YOU HAVE TO STOP! You’ve “never” had an ice cream cone this “enormous” in your entire life!!!! Fun for the kids or entire family! Just a warning to be ready! When you get the first one, you’ll realize you need to downsize for the triple scoop to a single! People we spoke to were on vacation, and another couple drove from nearly 50 miles away just to eat ice cream here! Incredible! There are lots of other menu items, and I will say, the pizza is excellent! I overheard comments from the locals about how good the sandwiches were! In addition, there’s drinks of all kinds along with travelers’ souvenirs! This business is full from front to back and side to side! Well worth the stop to see what you want or need! Have fun!
