Reviews
We had the pleasure of this Gem today. We did some yelping for a good restaurant and Farow showed up on the results. I do hope after this review and many more to follow, that it will quickly rise to the top of the list.
What an amazing lunch experience we had today. My dining partner and I just arrived back in the US after some international travel so our clocks are a bit skewed and boy am I happy they are! We dropped by Farow for the New, early opening on Saturdays {now Tuesday-Saturdays} ( Also to our delight, we had the full menu! What?! What?!)
What an amazing culinary journey today! Let me begin by giving Lisa, the owner high praise. Her restaurant is superior! Her staff and chef are 5 stars!
Located in Niwot Colorado, a particular fond location for myself, the restaurant boasted of modern elegant design. The outdoor patio was perfect for today. Our server, Ty, was absolutely phenomenal, highly recommend asking for him for your dinner dining experience. Ty was knowledgeable about the menu as well as wines so, do not hesitate to ask any questions, he welcomes all of them! Thank you Ty you WILL see us again!
The menu is designed for ALL ingredients coming within 10 miles of the restaurant. A true farm to table experience!
We began the menu with the chips and dip. Let me tell you, we are big fans in our household for the onion dip and chips. I mean Lipton soup mix with sour cream makes a killer dip option right? News Flash – nope – you HAVE to experience this onion dip and chip dish. This was FAR superior than anything we could’ve ever imagined.! ORDER!!! The dip was smooth, full of flavor and the caramelized onions were perfect balance of flavor with the crème fraiche, was so light, tasty and good. The homemade chips were outstanding!
Next step, we went with small plates. My dining partner got the bean salad, very delicious & unique with snap peas, green beans, both white and green peas with a basil pesto. Delicious! I ordered the chard cabbage – Please do yourself a favor order and experience to enjoy this dish. You will not be disappointed.!
We shared the duck and let me tell you, we were given a delightful treat! The duck was prepared at the chef recommended medium rare, and the duck confit balls were absolutely to die for! The cherry and sauce accompaniments were phenomenal, full of flavor and added the final elegant touch to this dish.
My dining partner enjoyed some dessert with homemade ice cream. I recommend not passing up this opportunity. The chef has a wonderful palate and is full of experimental flavors and ideas! What a joy and delight to experience.
If you’re looking for a lower key, quiet lunch opportunity think about Farow! If you’d like a really good meal and a beautiful quiet location let me recommend Farow – Please just go here!
Thank you Farow for a memorable and lovely meal! We look forward to seeing you again and enjoying another wonderful meal as well as tasting delicious dishes and enjoying absolutely beautiful Niwot Colorado!
For appetizers, we started with the corn ribs. They had a beautiful sauce on them and the presentation was both beautiful and inventive. We followed that with a local salad that was okay. For the height of Summer, the greens were a little tough and it lacked the abundance that you associate with August. The gazpacho was excellent.
For the main course, I had the steak frites. The steak was perfectly done with a compound butter on top. The cut of meat was tender and I’m guessing about 4 oz. The fries were disappointing and a little oil sodden. Not horrible but the fryer should have been turned up a little higher. My friend has the crab cakes that were good but not exceptional.
I was a little curious to the claim that they make 90% of their menu source locally. Being August, I would have expected much more summer vegetables and less seafood on the menu.
For dessert, we had the chocolate tart. The filling was excellent, an excellent body and not too sweet, finished with a dusting of maldon sea salt. The tart shell was a little heavy and not a good match for the amazing filling.
For drinks, I had an old fashioned and my friend had a mezcal drink, both of which were really done well. Compliments to the bartender.
The service was excellent and we had a new hire waiter named Ty who was attentive and personable.
The crowd was interestingly all women, and I’m guessing mostly niwot locals in their 50s and ’60s. Conversation was lively and wine was flowing.
I like the idea of fine dining in Niwot and will definitely dine there again. Local restaurants who make good food and support local farmers deserve our support. I highly recommend checking it out.
$14 cocktails should be $10 – $12. Again, they were really good but a few sips and they’re gone. Dessert was great. Really enjoyed the ice cream and chocolate bar.
But just either bring the prices down a tiny bit or add a little bit more food. Service was absolutely stellar!
