Fantasy Sushi – Authentic Japanese Dining Experience in Surrey
Fantasy Sushi – Sushi Restaurant in Surrey | Reviews, Hours …
Reviews
The food was served very quickly, which honestly surprised us. Even before taking a bite, the dishes already looked amazing. We ordered the chicken karaage bento box, California roll, and takoyaki, and every single item exceeded our expectations. The chicken karaage was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The California roll was fresh, flavorful, and satisfying, while the takoyaki was soft, hot, and packed with delicious flavor.
What we loved the most was that everything felt carefully prepared, and you could really taste the freshness in each bite. The staff were friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. The restaurant itself was clean and cozy, making it a comfortable place to enjoy a meal.
Overall, Fantasy Sushi is definitely a place we’ll keep coming back to. Fast service, amazing food, and a great atmosphere—highly recommended for anyone craving delicious sushi and Japanese dishes!
Pricing was student friendly, balanced portion meal.
Words can’t describe how amazing the sushi was, but I’ll give it my best shot. The fish here was really fresh, in fact I couldn’t even smell the fish and there was no strong fishy taste either which I heard from my Japanese friend that this is a clear indication of high quality sushi.
It is on the pricey side but if you want cheap low-grade fish, then this is NOT the place you should be dining in! This place was curated for those who can’t afford to fly to Japan but want something as close to Japanese quality sushi without having to travel to Vancouver.
My friends and I ordered the following dishes:
– Assorted Sashimi
– Assorted Nigiri
– Beef Tataki
– Hanako Roll
– Pandora Roll
– Chicken Karaage
– Deep Fried Fish (on the house from the chef – thanks chef!)
Assorted Sashimi :
Beautiful presentation, minimalist and good spacing – great use of the greens to balance out the colours of the fish. The fish was high quality that sits really nicely on the mouth, while the octopus had just the right amount of chew.
Assorted Nigiri :
Simple and effective presentation. Good fish to rice ratio with high quality fish. Great assortment of soft and chewy nigiri.
Beef Tataki :
Flavorful and prepared nicely. This was my first time trying this type of dish. Thinly sliced beef that just melts in your mouth. I highly recommend you try this dish at least once!
Hanako Roll and Pandora Roll :
These rolls were absolutely perfect. The rice to filling ratio was perfect. If you look at my photos you can see how thin the layer of rice is – what was even more impressive was how tightly rolled they were which prevented the roll from unwrapping even when completely soaked in soy sauce. The pandora roll was my favourite – the spice level was good which gave the dish just enough kick without overpowering the other flavours.
Chicken Karaage :
Nice, crispy and seasoned well. Not much to say about this staple dish aside from it tasted great!
Deep Fried Fish :
Very delicious fish. Deep fried well and yet did not feel overcooked. The meat slides off the bones nicely and the seasoning was on point.
Finally got to the end of the review, but before I close, I just want to thank the server for their great service and the chef for blessing us with high quality sushi in Surrey that’s comparable, if not better than expensive sushi restaurants in Vancouver.
This place is criminally underrated, you probably won’t find many tiktok reviews of this place…and honestly a part of me wishes it stays that way because I know there will be long lineups and waitlists if it blows up LOL…but in all seriousness, this place definitely deserves more recognition.
It was nice there was %10 off though when you check out there’s a mandatory tip that does not let you edit the amount. The lowest tip amount is %10. So pretty much no discount.
We ordered a variety of rolls. Chopped scallop, alaska, cali, dyna and house rolls. We also ordered sashimi and a spicy sashimi. The food was solid. Def fulfilled a sushi craving.
The spicy sashimi could have been better. There were diff levels of sauci-ness and spice. The sushi was fresh and tasty.
We went back the next day to dine in. We ordered a bento box and special rolls. My go to orders always include takoyako, gomae and if there’s one, a deep fried cali roll. They had all on the menu. I ordered a chicken bento and asked to replace the cali roll for deep fried. To which they did, which was nice of them. I also ordered the lunch special which allows you to choose 3 items on their list. Allowed me to try a variety of things without breaking the bank.
The service was okay, not great, nothing special. We had to call the waitress several times and at the time we were the only ones in the resto. They were friendly enough.
The prices were very decent. If you’re looking to save a couple bucks then I’d head over here. There are better places in the area but this place deserves a try. It will satisfy sushi cravings on a budget.
The $40 special chirashi comes with fatty tuna, a melt-in-the-mouth buttery texture, and medium flavour, but if one can notice this complexity, the rewards are everywhere.
Definitely not a cheap place, but for someone who really appreciates sushi, this is a delight.
Food quality: fresh, outstanding
Food portions: typical Japanese portions, probably a bit too small for North Americans.
Menu display: not quite clear for someone who doesn’t have much experience dining in Oriental places. Staff not much helpful in terms of presenting and explaining what’s what.
Price: quite high in comparison to neighbouring restaurants. ( prices are usually higher in restaurants rather than a simple sushi place, so that should be expected)
* sides of ginger and wasabi are very small.
Cleanliness: very clean for Surrey standards.
If you are a foodie and want to indulge order variety of rolls so you leave fully satisfied.
Just revisit and notice they change the owner. Give a try, food still tasty. Will definitely visit again. Thanks for the good food
