Local chain founded in 1923 serving up hot dogs plus sandwiches & shakes in an unfussy atmosphere.

Very unique and fun place to visit if you’re a foodie, tourist, or even if you’re not! Obviously, there are lots of regulars to be in business for 100 years!
The hot dogs are different, not the usual at all. Sliced in half and grilled with a good “char” and the snap that a lot of people like. They’re very meaty and reminded me a bit of polish sausage. Not a whole lot of flavor to them, but they weren’t bland either. Love how finely diced the onions are, and there is no skimping! Then there is the RELISH! I didn’t order it at first, then saw the sign that said it is homemade, so I asked for a little sample, and oh my gosh, is it GOOD! Best relish I’ve ever had!
Service was friendly and the server was very knowledgeable about their history and such. The place is very clean too, though the bathrooms could use a little spiffing up.
Street parking was easily available within close walking distance.
Overall, a great stop!
P.S. It was only $18 and change for two dogs, an order of fries, and two drinks!

For a place with so much history and fame, I was really disappointed. I went with the “all in” option to get the most authentic experience and ordered a hot dog and a burger. For some reason, the burger came in a hot dog bun (?). That would’ve been fine if it was tasty. Both hot dogs were lukewarm and not very tasty. I don’t think I will be back.

Fish sandwich is 2 fish sticks on a hot dog roll. But you get what you pay for and the place is legendary nay famous. So it’s fun to experience. But as a vegetarian who eats fish , it’s not exactly the greatest experience. Instead of shredded lettuce on the hot dog roll, they literally just yank pieces off of the head and shove it on a small hot dog roll so you have to take off the lettuce because it’s impossible to eat. However , if you eat meat , it’s paradise …shove all the long meat sticks in your mouth you want for reasonable price

Super famous place thats been around for 101 years!!!!! My son & I came in late one night recently with about an hour till closing. Staff starting to sweep the floor but very friendly and ready for us. Classic old diner feel & decor with “back in the day” pics and menu on the wall ($0.30 for a tall 32oz beer?!?).
Chocolate milkshake came out 1st from our order- AMAZING!
Famous Hot Weiner combo closely behind. Food was fresh- str8 outta the fryer and off the grill. Hot dog had a unique taste & presentation that was good. Hamburger was also presented on a hot dog bun (kinda cool) with decent flavor but not enough meat to bun ratio…..in my opinion.
{{truth be told, this is the first visit I’ve had here since I was a kid}}
The staff seemed happy to serve us & checked on us several times before and during our meal.
All smiles as we paid at the register and we were invited back -“see you next time!”
So- brief visit but mostly a good / positive / nostalgic experience!

What used to be a good cheap
Lunch. Is now, not so good and definitely, not cheap. Two hotdogs fries and drink was around $17 dollars add on a tip you got a $20 doller bill into it. Fries were ok, needed to add some salt. Gravy was ok but nothing to write home about. Hot dogs were not good today, they both tasted like grease and one was under cooked. Disappointed. One shine of light in my dining experience was the lady that served me. She was very nice and on top of things.

I love the Famous Hot Weiner in Hanover. We travel here a couple of times a year now that we live at the beach, and now my kids are hooked too. It’s just like I remember it from when I was a kid. The taste, the smell, the whole vibe. We even get a bunch of hotdogs to take back with us. They are just as good the next day. My wife actually likes them better the next day because the flavor from the chili, onions, and hotdogs all have a chance to marry together. Keep up the great work, and we will see you again soon. Thank you for all that you do.

Went with a friend for the first time last night. We each got the special with a wiener and burger. First, my wiener had a hair baked into the cheese and another one on the bun of my cheeseburger. When I got my food back, the burger was alright but the wiener was just gross. Not sure if it was undercooked or what but the outside was tough and chewy. Didn’t even eat half and neither did my friend. We were both very surprised that such a notorious place would serve such crap food.

The hot dogs are great — try one with just their homemade relish!
A hint: if you order a cheese dog, you might not notice the cheese. Don’t be shy about asking them to make it extra cheesy.
The staff is fun and sassy and knows their menu well. You can get a pretty filling lunch here for under $13. The buns are magical!
(I drove in from WV because I am dedicated to finding good hot dogs wherever I go. These are good!)

Visited here for the first time with my son. It was more for experience rather than for the food. Not that the food was bad, it was good for what it was. It was exactly what we were looking for and what we expected. They were definitely hot weiner’s no doubt about that. The toppings were great and the frys were good to. The price was right, the waitress was polite and the service excellent. It definitely was a cool experience none the less and my son and I had a great time conversing with the waitress and checking out all of the pictures on the wall, finding out all of the history of the restaurant and why the hotdogs snap when you bite into them. I don’t think we’ll be regulars but since my wife, kids and I kinda dub ourselves as foodies it was a cool place to visit and I definitely recommend you do the same if you ever find yourself in Hanover PA and you want some good hotdogs.

Came from MD to eat a famous hot wiener. Super quaint diner, family photos on the walls, high schoolers behind the till, my aunt minus the cigarette taking my order.
Atmosphere is diner. I might be in 1956, maybe 1978. My famous cheese wiener tasted like Pennsylvania. Delicious Americana. But it wasn’t hot. It was warm.
Banana shake was laffy taffy, Runts flavored soft serve goodness.
