So excited to have found the Family Life Bistro. The food is awesome, the service amazing & the atmosphere a delight. We had smothered chicken, a smothered pork chop(no picture), greens, Mac n cheese & dressing. Everything was seasoned well & flavorful. Next time I’m packing my Tabasco & getting the fried chicken! When a server walked by with some, I almost asked the woman getting it for a piece. It looked that good! We are definitely going back! I gave 4 stars because the cornbread, rolls & desserts are served cold.

Great and surprising place. Had the pork steak and it was very very good. Served as a buffet but then your seated at a well appointed table with a sever for drinks. This restaurant is affiliated with the church next door. Definitely worth the visit.

I had to think long and hard about my experience because I try to support soul food establishments since they are rare. My honest opinion is that I would recommend coming to this restaurant for comfort food. I do the same cooking at home. So, it’s a matter of convenience at a very pricey cost. In short, I choose restaurants for the sake of the experience. It was ok but, not my cup of tea. But, the food is good.

Friendly greeting when we arrived for lunch then, since it was our first time, an explanation what was on the line from sides to entrees served cafeteria style. Each one looked so good. Since my former meatloaf restaurant (Earl Abel) removed meatloaf from its menu, I opted for meatloaf, greens and mac and cheese. I had read the portions are huge and those reviews were correct. The meatloaf was two portions worth in any other restaurant covered with a bell peppery thick tomato sauce and tasted fantastic. The greens were tender and had the vinegar taste you expect in good Southern greens. We were a little late in the lunch hour so the cheese in the mac and cheese had crusted a bit, but tasted good. The price point was reasonable for the amount of food and the military discount is much appreciated. The Caribbean inspired sweet tea was not overly sweet and tasted very good with a slight taste of berries to me. My colleague had the smothered chicken which looked great (again large portion) and he said it was very tender and delicious with dirty rice and yams. Needless to say, I did not leave hungry. There are so many things I didn’t get to try today, but I’ll be back! Everyone working in the restaurant was very friendly, attentive and helpful making us feel right at home.

I cannot say enough good things about this restaurant. The food is fresh and very authentic when it comes to soul food/southern cooking. My favorites are the yams, collard greens, catfish and the baked chicken. Before I moved to Austin last year, this became my regular spot for dinner after church every Sunday – no matter if I was dining in or carrying out. Every one is so friendly there! I love the fact that the First Lady of the church comes and helps out with the restaurant. True dedication to making people feel at home.

I hope I can find a restaurant in Austin that serves food with love just like Family Life Bistro.

I met the Pastor and First Lady on Saturday while visiting a food truck. They are both beautiful soul and shared the details of their Restaurant. Lord am I thrilled they are open on Sunday’s. Beautiful environment and food and staff are wonderful. This East Coast girl just got taken back to Grandma house on Sunday evening. Thanks so much.
