I was looking forward to trying this place out. Only to be disappointed that they don’t serve loco moco and pork belly anymore. Second day in a row for my hunt of a loco moco and struck out. This place is located in a food hall. They had at least 10+ dining options here.
The person who helped me was super nice and apologetic. Sadly, at the time I placed my order, the menu wasn’t working either.
I ordered:
1. Kalua pork all rice: My husband had to settle for this since there was no loco moco. It was shredded pork and a little dry. It lacked something. Maybe if it was a kalua pork with cabbage, it would be juicier and flavorful.
2. Garlic shrimp w/ chicken katsu: I was surprised this was a fried shrimp with no shell and was coated in the chili sauce. The shrimp was a good size as well. Chicken katsu was tasty. It wasn’t the standard panko breading. It had flavor that it didn’t need the sweet chili sauce.
3. Crispy spam musubi: I had looked forward to this, but instead, what was in the bag was furikake fries. He had assured me everything was there and even highly recommended the crispy spam musubi. He said it’s typically his lunch break snack. Fail.
4. POG agua fresca: I was surprised this was something they still had on the menu. It was delightfully tasty and not overly sweet like an agua fresca
Overall, the food was good. I honestly wouldn’t have come here had I known there was no loco moco. So it was a good experience to try something new.

I had the sweet chili garlic shrimp; my husband tried the kalua pork and TERI chicken. Both plates were very flavorful! The prices were good for the quality of food. A cute spot in the middle of 4Th Street Market in downtown Santa Ana if you’re looking for a quick, casual lunch.

I got the 2 protein mixplate and I’ll be honest, it wasn’t as good as I initially thought it’d be. I ordered sweet chili garlic shrimp and honey sesamue katsu, but dear god was it EXTREMELY salty to the point it made my stomach hurt. The sweet chili garlic shrimp was just disappointing. The only filling part about this dish was the rice, and the amount of white rice that they put in the plate. The mac salad was also disappointing, salty and just really disgusting. I’ve eaten here for around 5 years on and off and completely stopped after the porkbelly was removed for shredded pork. Came back just to be even more disappointed. Idk I know it’s harsh but damn this place has changed a lot.

Since moving here from Hawaii, I’m always on the lookout for some good Hawaiian grindz. Food worker Robert recommended the chicken karaage to me, so I decided to give it a go. I ordered using their tablet and was able to customize my order (no onions, no rice, please!) with ease. Kenny was so kind to include spicy mayo and sweet sauce on the side for me. The food was alright. Chicken karaage was crispy, a little overdone. Regular mac salad was good. Spicy mac salad tasted unusual (like if buffalo wings and macaroni had a baby?). Overall, a decent meal. I’m definitely stuffed. Thanks to Kenny and Robert for the great effort and service! 🙂

Love their chicken katsu, teri chicken, and sweet chili garlic shrimp. Their honey sesame sauce is so good. I usually do 2 protein plate. The food is always made fresh, delicious, oh and service is great and quick! Attentive staff. Highly recommend!

The sweet chili garlic shrimp was delicious and the Mac salad was pretty good. The shrimp was crispy, sweet and savory with the garlic after taste. Not a big fan of the cole slaw so I would ask for double Mac salad if possible. The pork belly sandwich was filling, soft and tender with every bite. Worth a visit if you’re in the area.
Update: ordered the cheehoo fries and the pork belly grilled cheese and definitely ono grindz for sure. Will come again when I’m back at the 4th street market.

This shop is in a food hall but it did not stop the great service we received.
Our cashier, gave a bunch of good suggestions and even made a deconstructed Masubi for my daughter. We went with the hungry Faka because it was a little of everything.
The food came out in 10 minutes and was delicious!
Can’t wait to come back.

Fakas Island Grill is a food establishment cinched into the 4th street food market in downtown Santa Ana. It is one of the best island style food joints I have had the pleasure of eating at.
The Mac is not too greasy or overdone. The furikake rice is the right type of moist and savory. The crunchy musubi was spot on delicious. The shrimp is definitely worth trying. And they’re pork belly is to die for.
Great food. Pleasant service. The folks truly know the nature of Mahalo, and you’ll break your mouth chowing down on all this fine food. Give it a try, you’ll not regret it.
