Absolutely the biggest boast I can give to the best Cuban restaurant located in Nashville
Back to Cuba Cafe

I was so happy to find out they had reopened!! (They closed during Covid) and yes I will absolutely drive over an hour to eat there! ️

This is true authentic Cuban food & it’s delicious!

I ordered a pulled chicken empanada $4.75… But I ate it on the way home so I didn’t get a picture of it lol. It was stuffed with tender pulled seasoned chicken. I’ve tried the beef empanada before.. just as delicious!

But the main reason I went there was for the Lechon Asada.. this is a roasted pork served w/ white rice, black beans, yuca w/ mojo sauce $19.95 Can we say OMG??!

You definitely will not leave hungry!! I had enough for dinner and leftovers for tomorrow’s lunch. The roast is so tender and seasoned to perfection The yuca with the mojo sauce, which is a garlic citrus sauce is so good. And I’m not sure exactly what they do to their white rice and black beans.. but it is hands-down the best!

The owner was so sweet. She remembered me, even though it had been years & and she gave me a “welcome back” cherry turnover ❤️

Where do I begin. The food here is absolutely amazing. I stumbled upon this place this evening. I had been seeing it for a while and decided today was the day. I am very happy. In the pictures I had the: Ropa Viajes, Tostones app with shrimp. All 5 stars. The flavors are authentic and hand made for sure. Roxanna my server was very friendly and made sure that everything was perfect. If you are a fan of cuban food this is a hidden gem.

Why are you still reading? Run dont walk, you will not be disappointed.

I drove 30 minutes to try this place. When I entered the cafe it took me right back to Miami with regards to the style and smell. Very authentic. The wait staff were quick to assist me and seat me. Once I ordered my food it was only 10 minutes if that before I had this glorious bounty a food presented to me. It was absolutely delicious! I had a guava pastelito for dessert which I forgot to take a picture and it was amazing so I bought another one to take home.

Everyone was very helpful and polite I will definitely be making a habit of stopping by here a few times a month.

We stopped into Back to Cuba by chance after a listing photo session at a client’s home nearby (fueling up is part of the creative process, right?). Mathew went classic with the Cuban sandwich — perfectly pressed, melty, and just the right balance of savory pork and tangy pickles. I ordered the carne plate with black beans, steamed rice, and tostones, and honestly, every bite tasted like it was made with heart. The tostones were golden perfection — crispy outside, tender inside — and the beans had that home-cooked comfort that makes you want to linger a little longer.
Even the white rice was incredible, a humble grain turned into one of my favorite items on the plate, made sensational with care. If you’re searching for something vibrant, flavorful, and totally authentic, make your way Back to Cuba. You’ll leave full, happy, and probably planning your next visit before you hit the parking lot.

Great music, even better food. The owner is a very gracious host, like sitting in his home dining room. The meal was excellent. The beans and rice were perfection. Everything was seasoned perfectly. The bread on the cubano was really top shelf. I usually do not order a cubano, because the bread does not hold up, but Dios mio, it was unbelievable. A must visit in Nashville.

5 years ago, Back to Cuba Cafe, one of my favorite restaurants in Nashville closed due to Mapco Gas Stations greedily buying up the Trousdale Road strip mall that housed their location. I was heart broken, given the fact that I would buy one of their amazing Cuban sandwiches or another one of their many authentic Cuban recipes almost every week. Recently, after relocating to Maine, I learned that they had opened a new restaurant in the Nipper’s Corner area, (funnily enough, the exact area I lived before my move up north. Lol.) So finally, last week I got a chance to return to Tennessee for my daughter’s birthday, and I finally got to experience my beloved Back to Cuba’s glorious, Cuban sandwich again! It was just as good, if not better than I remember. This will now become a Nashville staple every time I return to Tennessee. Probably visiting multiple times like I did on this most recent trip. Absolutely outstanding and would highly recommend checking them out!!

This place is absolutely amazing. I’ve been going here since I was a kid when it was originally on Trousdale. The food is fresh, the flavor and the texture of everything is top notch. I was gonna go next-door to typical Mexican, but I came here, and I was so grateful. There’s nothing like a perfectly cooked meal to lift the spirits. The Pechuga à la Plancha was 5 stars. And the coffee is perfect.

Back to Cuba Cafe knows how to serve up flavor. I came here with a group of buddies and the food was a hit across the board. The empanadas were packed with flavor and cooked just right. The other plates my friends ordered looked and tasted even better.

Now, full honesty, I didn’t order the best dish at the table. Mine was good, no complaints, but when you’re eyeing your buddy’s plate wishing you’d made his choice, you know you left points on the board. That’s on me, not the kitchen.

Bottom line: the food is solid, the flavors are authentic, and I’ll be back again to give the menu another swing.

I have been wanting authentic Cuban food since I moved here 10 years. I have found it!! The food, service and atmosphere brings you back to Miami, FL. I highly recommend this restaurant. The guava and cheese pastelito, chicken empanada, vaca fries and cafecito are the real deal. Maybe delicioso!
