Tonight was our second time trying the Deer District location before an Admirals game. They were busy because of multiple events going on (bucks, admirals, and a St Patty’s shamrock shuffle), which we were totally understanding about. The hostess was friendly and helped us get a table right away.
Our beverages took about 20+ minutes to get to us after ordering. I went back to get water from the water station, and that was empty. Food took about 30 minutes, which isn’t horrible, BUT quality wasn’t there. My husband got classic wings which were dry and seemed to be par-fried as the bones were basically shredding as he was eating them. My tacos had decent flavor but the meat was dry (carne asada and al pastor) and nothing was hot…. It was warm, at best.
We were big Explorium fans, but after having a disappointing visit at the Third Ward location after its opening, and now two disappointing visits at the Deer District location, I’m not sure we will be back.
Margarita was solid, made from scratch. For beer, enjoyed the Firefly Hazy IPA – it was smooth, almost like a milkshake IPA, and fruity.
All beers on the menu were either $9 or $10. I ordered a Damn that’s Good Double IPA that came out to $10.84 since the menu price doesnt include tax. On top of the ridiculous price it came in a plastic cup. The beer itself was good but not for damn near $11.
The music was way too loud, had a hard time talking with people across the table from me.
Plenty of other bars within walking distance to Fiserv Forum, go somewhere else and you won’t be price gouged.
A note – the reuben bombs, while delicious, are a shareable appetizer. I could not eat the serving myself, it was a lot of reuben.
This was our second visit at the Deer District spot and it will definitely be the last and it’s solely based on the food.
Even though they were under staffed and overwhelmed the staff was friendly and acknowledged the situation with grace.
The food once again fell well below par. The wings were well over cooked and dry which made me think they were par cooked for the rush and refried. They had bones showing and looked like zombie wings. Taco meat was dry and cold, shells were stale.
Mike, I love you but you gotta do better.
