Everett & Jones Barbeque was started by Dorothy Everett with her eight daughters, one son and one son-in-law (Jones) in Oakland, California in 1973.
Dorothy and her husband Cleveland were born and came of age in rural Alabama, in a small town named Westpoint. With three children and another on the way, the family decided to seek new opportunity in California. In 1952, Cleveland Everett departed Alabama first to find work and a place for the family to live and Dorothy followed later with the children. Eight years later Dorothy and Cleveland separated leaving Dorothy to care for the children.

Came on Labor Day and spent $90 on takeout (including $14 tip, they were incredibly busy). Everything was either undercooked, flavorless, or below average. BBQ sauce was extremely watered down, chicken and ribs were not cooked fully, and everything else was pretty below par. I understand it gets busy and they have tons of orders to go through, but for the price, you should be expecting at least decent quality. The only reason I’m giving 2 stars is because the staff were nice and accommodating, and the bathroom was clean. That’s about it.

It used to be so good like 20 years ago. I guess why there isnt much of a line anymore. Each location sells slightly different items which I was so disappointed in. I like 1.5 hours from the Bay Area. The Berkeley location sells this biscoff banana pudding to die for. I called the MacArthur branch and asked if they had that specific one and they said yes. I went and nope it was banana pudding with Villa wafers. I hate being disappointed when it comes to my food. The prices are ridiculous. The potato salad had waaaay too much mayonnaise (yuck), I always have to fix it when I get home. I had to pay if I want to substitute it (boooo). The restaurant facilities themselves could use some TLC. I appreciate them being a staple in the community but they could stand to do a little better.

I moved here almost a year ago, being from St Louis means I have a ton of feelings about BBQ. I’ve avoided any at all because I was sure to be disappointed.
I am so excited to say that I took my left overs home and didn’t want to share with anyone! I had the brisket lunch, and the medium sauce they gave me had a wonderful sweet and smokey flavor! The brisket itself is average for my expectations which is a huge compliment!
I normally don’t want bbq from a place that is squeaky clean because good bbq is a smokey juicy affair. But I’ll make an exception for Everett & Jones!
Now I have to go back and try everything else!
The service is also amazing. I chatted briefly with one of the chefs.

Regret taking that open spot on MacArthur in front of Everett and Jones. The ribs were bland, oven-dry, and chewy. They were not smoked or properly seasoned, just thrown in the oven and undercooked. Won’t be going back. But I liked the diet ginger beer. Didn’t know diet was available. The first time I had it was in New Zealand.

Brisket was exceptional honestly it was moist and tender well seasoned. The ribs were kinda dry and Berkeley location is not good at all. The price was ridiculous and potato salad was good, but I like blan potato salad. Mild sauce was very good as well.

It’s Everett and Jones.
Of course it gets five stars. This time. I just had a simple BBQ Chicken lunch with potato salad, mild sauce because it’s been a stressy year. Just absolutely wonderful comfort food and I love their potato salad recipe. You got two pieces of chicken, huge scoop of potato salad and a couple of slices of bread, napkins and if you want some wipes
To me wipes are for the uncivilized , you got to lick that sauce off your fingers.

Wow! So tender. The pork sandwich is simply awesome. The pork is not chewy. It is not stringy. Perfect consistency and tender. The beans are more in the sweet side with a healthy dose of cumin. The potato salad is more of a mash. The mild side is on the sweet side. If you like it hot ask for a stronger sauce. The ambiance could use a brush up. And they don’t serve coffee.

I had the brisket lunch and a side of Mac and Cheese. The brisket was a bit tough and the sauce was OK. The mac & cheese was disappointing, lacked creaminess and cheese flavor. I did enjoy the potato salad and the service was very good.

“BBQ” was stamped on the ticket in big bold letters, the ticket came in yesterday’s mail, and that’s all it said “BBQ” Well, there’s only one person that’ll send me something like that, and Rosie Rivit`air is her name. What a gal, that’s her way of asking for a dinner.
I picked her up at her bigass house in SF and went across the bay to one of my favorite BBQ joints…Everett and Jones BBQ. We had the best smoked chicken breasts I’ve ever had, 5 stars all the way. ☆☆☆☆☆

5 stars – Amazing Brisket and Greens!
I recently stopped by Everett & Jones BBQ on High Street in Oakland and had an absolutely fantastic lunch! I ordered the brisket lunch and it was truly amazing. The portion was incredibly generous, and the brisket itself was so flavorful – perfectly cooked and tender.
I also got a side of the greens, and they were just as impressive. Seriously some of the best greens I’ve had there!
If you’re looking for delicious, authentic BBQ with great portions, Everett & Jones is definitely the place to go. I highly recommend it!
