Home of the Monster German Weiner. The year was 1980. Ronald Reagan took office as president. The Rubik’s Cube made its debut. And a quirky, German deli and restaurant called Mr. Dunderbak’s opened in the Regency Square Mall in Jacksonville, Fla. In the 1990s, the Zarkas re-opened as European Street Cafe. Today, E. Street encompasses three restaurants throughout Jacksonville: Riverside, San Marco and Jacksonville Beach. E. Street remains one of the most popular and beloved restaurants in Northeast Florida, with 100+ menu items and one of the most extensive beer selections in the city. Not only is it a place where everybody knows your name, but it’s one where they know your drink (and your sandwich, if you’re a regular).

Stacked sandwiches, desserts & a huge beer selection star at this comfy German-inspired local chain.

Appetizers came out really quickly. The artichoke spinach dip came out in minutes. Next came the beer cheese soup bowl with pretzel bread sticks.

Seemed like a really long time to get our entries, which were just sandwiches.
The Blue Max was very tasty, be aware it is a little spicy.
The Rueben Classic was classic and great.
The Italian Club was also great.
The Croissant Breakfast sandwich was good.

There are like 15 veg options. The waitress also let us know what was in the soups that our veg friend would want to be aware of.

Besides all this, the deco was splendid, with images from many different European sites, like Venice, Munich, and several airport code signs.

Then there are the European candy options from everywhere.
Milka, Slo Poke, Mallo cup, coconut slices, Black Cow, Skittles, Dutch licorice bears, Dutch licorice cats, Dutch licorice coins, Dutch licorice drops, Did Bitz, Honees, cow tails, Ginger hard candy, Gustafs allsorts, After shocks, Feeds rootbeer, reeds peppermint, reeds cinnamon, reeds butterscotch, Howard’s Guave, Howards Peppermints, Howard’s Violet, Squashies, a variety of Haribo bags and a variety of Pez.

Also had carrot cake, Chocolate Cheesecake, 5″ cube rice crispy treats, Awaken coffee options, Baklava.

My wife and I have lived in Jacksonville for four years and somehow never tried European Street Cafe until now. We honestly can’t believe what we’ve been missing. From the moment we walked in, the place felt warm and welcoming. It has that authentic European charm you rarely find, cozy and full of life but still relaxed.

The staff were incredible — friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind. You can tell they take pride in what they do and care about every guest who walks through the door.

The food was absolutely fantastic. I had the sausage platter, and it was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. My wife had the Reuben, and she said it was one of the best she’s ever had. Everything tasted fresh and made with real attention to detail.

European Street Cafe has clearly been part of Jacksonville’s story for years, and it shows in all the best ways. It’s a place with history, personality, and heart. Whether you’re after authentic European comfort food, a great beer selection, or just a relaxed meal with wonderful service, this is the spot.

Highly recommended. Easily one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Jacksonville.

Big fan of this place! It’s always so fun to try out a new sandwich every time we go! On our recent visit we tried the sliders. They are basically the mini version of some sandwich faves! And you cannot beat their happy hour, 2 for 1 deal! Oh and the European street app is one of the coolest things! I love that it includes awesome rewards as well as a virtual punch card. This restaurant is definitely my happy place. Service is great and everyone’s always so warm and
Friendly. If you have a sweet tooth the cookies or peanut butter pie is absolutley amazing! This place is really great for almost everyone. They have great vegetarian and vegan options too. And you’ll love their beet cheese soup. I could probably list 20 things off the menu I love! Anyway, if you’ve never been – you totally should go! 🙂

E-Street San Marco: The Ultimate Friday Vibe

Listen, some things in Jax are hit or miss, but European Street is a permanent staple for a reason. It never, ever disappoints—even when you’re doing the takeout dance.

Do yourself a solid: grab your order and head straight for the St. Johns. There is absolutely nothing like catching a sunset with your special someone while the river breeze does its thing.

** The Sunset Picnic Goods:**

* Turkey Parisian & Cordon Bleu:

Absolute heavy hitters. These sandwiches travel like pros and taste even better with a view.

* The Boursin & Pretzel Sticks:

You literally cannot go to E-Street and not get the Boursin. Dipping those salty pretzel sticks into that creamy herb goodness is a sensory requirement.

* “Sweet Gas”:

We washed it all down with a big cup of their sweet tea. It’s that perfectly strong, sugary “sweet gas” that hits the reset button on your brain after a long week.

It’s simple, it’s classic, and it’s pure San Marco magic.

I can’t tell you how many times we’ve come here. It’s the beet ES location. Seating is plentiful and parking is good. It’s always clean inside and out.

The food is fresh and the menu is huge. I’ve tried many dishes. Turkey croissant sandwich may be my favorite. Soups with pretzel sticks are hard to beat. Not much to complain about.

The desserts up front along with the candies are awesome with a big selection and variation. There are unique candy bars, cakes and cookies.

The staff is super nice and helpful. The best waiter is when you walk in, to the left in the back. I don’t know his name yet but we always get him. Dude is awesome and on top of everything. He always gets a good tip from us.

This place is awesome! It has friendly and helpful service from the staff as well as a great menu with plenty of choices and it’s fairly priced. Last but not least, the food was fantastic!! Thank you! 5/5

PS – the dessert displays and what’s in them are a 5/5 just by itself. The “Rice Krispie” bars are HUGE and taste homemade (and they’ve different varities!). The lemon cream cake was absolutely delicious.

We love “E-Street!” This was a favorite place for my mom and I for many many years. She is gone now and this was my first time back without her.

Besides having great food, service, and atmosphere, it holds a special place in my heart. Such great memories, so thankful.

Really enjoyed my visit. First time at a European style Cafe. The atmosphere was awesome complete with a display case full of sweets and desserts. Had a great meal, my server was very helpful with menu options. Purchased some rock Candy sticks on the way out for my kids and grandkids to try. Will definitely be visiting here again!!

Lovely place I went to for an early lunch with family. The food and service were very nice, and the establishment was clean and spacious. Loved the dessert display windows and the nostalgic candy section they have. I recommend the Creme Brulee cheesecake for a dessert choice, but they have many other options, such as cookies and cakes. I’d say go early if you can because parking can fill up quickly. Wonderful options for food, definitely recommend this place for a nice outing or friendly lunch meet up etc.
