We stopped in for a quick dinner a couple of nights ago; first visit. Overall, the restaurant was okay. I had the Hot Cat Stack, which I mostly enjoyed, though the catfish was a bit overcooked and under-seasoned. The cornbread with chive and honey butter was fantastic and really saved the dish for me.
We also tried the shrimp and grits appetizer. The shrimp weren’t de-veined and the grits lacked flavor, needed something. There was no sauce or gravy, which felt unusual; bacon was a plus. The restaurant has a Creole-inspired vibe, but the menu felt more “inspired by” than truly Creole along with the taste.
Prices were a little on the high side for what was served, but not unreasonable. The only odd thing was being charged $1 for bread — not a big deal, but it would’ve been nice if the server had mentioned it; may be posted somewhere ?
One thing that stood out: all the Black couples were seated upstairs while others were in the main area. Not calling it intentional, just something that felt noticeable to me, otherwise I didn’t feel as if I was treated any differently and the staff were nice. Maybe it’s unintentional.
All in all, the restaurant has some unique flavors, and I wouldn’t discourage anyone from giving it a try — but for me, once was enough.

Everything was Outstanding! Every request was met with a smile. Both Chefs visited our table twice to make sure we were happy. This was our first visit and we were thoroughly impressed. The food was amazing. We went for the crab soup and let’s say we will be back. The shrimp and grits didn’t disappoint. I can’t wait to try the crab cakes. Oh I forgot to mention our server Jade and bartender Haley were AMAZING! Go early to beat the crowd!

I would really love to give this place a 5 star but two things stood out. One they charge for the bread, it’s only $1 but they don’t tell you. I don’t care about a dollar, but I don’t like it being slipped in. Two, the ribs were good, but not much meat, way too much mashed potatoes. Service was excellent, very kind and helpful but not overbearing at all.

Was contacted by owner, stated the price of bread is clearly on the front of their menu for the past 15 years… asked the wife about it, she stated she didn’t see it either, if it was, it’s easily missed.
Looked back at previous menu posts, it’s located at the bottom, can be easily missed, Seeing even older posts, don’t see it at all. I would have changed my review, but when you call at 7:07 am on a Sunday morning and sound stand offish because I stated that didnt see it and I wouldn’t mind paying for it, maybe I just missed it. Not reasonable at all, just the we are right you are not attitude. That’s why I went from a 4 star to a 3.

Came here for a graduation dinner. And it was DELICIOUS! We all ate well and left happy! I had the Cat Stack I HIGHLY recommend yall have it. The table ordered ribs, Nola chicken, salmon, jambalaya. Everyone finished their meal. Also ordered both items available for dessert (chocolate cake and blueberry bread pudding… something like that) Additionally, we were actually able to get our reservations moved from 6:15 to 5:00 and that’s accommodating 8 people. Truly a gem!

We usually come to Ethel’s Creole twice a year. The food is truly amazing. If you are in the mood for a gumbo or jambalaya, this is the place to go. They serve the best shrimp and portions are huge. During our last visit on a Wednesday evening, we were the only customers till the end of the meal at which time a lonely customer walked in. With such delicious food, this place should be packed.

Almost everything was 10/10 and I would fully recommend this spot for good food! Be prepared to spend more money than usual, but if we are basing everything off of what I have had, it was definitely worth it.

Even though I have had jambalaya elsewhere, including in New Orleans, so far the jambalaya here is the best I have ever had. It was flavorful, abundant in quantity, well-seasoned, and had a good balance of meat, rice, and vegetables on the side. The baby back ribs were sure slow roasted because the meat was falling off the bones very easily, with a sufficient amount of ribs in some delicious sauce. There was also a good amount of roasted zucchini, squash, and carrots, so I was thoroughly satisfied. They have the ribs available in the mango chipotle sauce as well.

I didn’t have the cucumber salad, but I did have some of the Mom’s Crab Cakes, which my friends ordered. They were not like traditional crab cakes, because the crab cakes had no filler at all. It was everything crab, which made it more worth it, which also meant that it was expensive because it was between $40 and $50 when we got it. Once again, a good amount of vegetables, and a good amount of mashed potatoes. I enjoyed it a lot as well, even if part of me wasn’t really used to it.

Once again, highly recommended! If I return here at any point, then I will, without a doubt, try their authentic gumbo and their Crawfish Fried Grits, which they were out of when we tried to order it today.

Thank you Chef For solving my hunger issue, even though your pipes were broke. Wish your pipes a speedy recovery so that all of us can get back to your good food. The soup was amazing. I took pictures, but I don’t want to present anything in the way that you would not like it so I’ll wait until I have a bowl of that great corn chowder on site. Thanks again be back soon. Not only are you a great chef but you are very nice And considerate person.

Best crab dip I’ve ever eaten! Wow! And the lemonade was fresh squeezed & awesome. Great gumbo, great service & everyone enjoyed their meals! Sat by door so was pretty chilly & could have used another space heater on that side but it was all well worth it!

I found this spot on Google because I wanted to try something different in the city. I walked in and noticed it was a nice quaint spot. The atmosphere was very nice. The staff was very pleasant. But I must say the food was delicious and awesome. They gave huge portions so much so that I couldn’t eat it all and had to take it with me. I had the crab dip as shown in the pics. It was tasty. I loved it. I also had the brisket, mac and cheese, and shrimp thingy. That was great. As I stated, the portion was huge. It was suggested by my server, Lindsay, who was wonderful, might I add. My friend had red beans and rice, and I tasted a sample, and that was good. They have a nice menu of other things I want to try, so I will certainly be back.
