My Mommy took me here for lunch and it was divine. We ordered the fried mushrooms as an appetizer. The batter was delicious and the shrooms were juicy. I was gonna order the Loaded Spud but when I seen it come out to another table, I quickly changed to the Open-faced Pot Roast. It transported me y’all. I was all of a sudden sitting in a cozy home with the fireplace cracklin’. It was wintery outside. The mashed potatoes are real too.
My Moms ordered the Chicken fried steak. It looked real tasty. My Mom always finds something wrong with her food. She said it was I not on the tough side for her. I did not try it but next time I will. Just gotta find someone to bring me back.
Our meal began with everything rolls and butter they were so yummy and a pleasant change from the typical rolls.
We began with chips and salsa, while ok, it could have used a bit more heat. Just a little of the Chipotle from the mashed potatoes could have knocked that salsa out of the park.
Everything we had after the appetizer was fabulous .
I chose Robert Mondavi Cabernet Sauvignon to pair with my Maple Porkchops topped with pecans and cranberries served over the Chipotle mashed potatoes with a side of steamed squash. This dish was amazing it paired with the wine beautifully and the flavors kept me coming back for another bite time and again. This dish also came with either a Cesar salad or a wedge salad and the Cesar was very good.
I wrapped up my meal with a salted caramel cheesecake that was the perfect end to this amazing meal.
I must say, it was nice to find this quality of a meal in such a hidden away little place. If you are looking for an Austin type restaurant experience in rural Oklahoma this is the place for you.
I had seen other reviewers that mentioned Sundays being crowded. They are correct. We came in at the tail-end of the Sunday crowd. The crowd had left after a few minutes of our placing our order. From order to table, it was a long time before we received our food, close to an hour and for one person it was even longer. Which is not good but one person in our party had to wait another 20 minutes while watching everyone around her eat. 2 members of our party were not given what they requested as a side dish but they were satisfied with the main entree.
This restaurant has what appear to be homemade chips. I am willing to bet that on most days these are quite delicious. I ate one from one of our plates- it was good. The 2 people who had their chips as the side, however, said that the chips weren’t so good once they each had more of them. I ordered french fries which were good, nothing exceptional. I will note, that those who had chips as their side had specified they wanted fries. The staff did correct this, it took 15 or 20 minutes before they brought out a plate of fries. This act did satisfy everyone, the plate was full and the fries were good.
So 3 or 4 people in our party ordered some pot roast dish. The restaurant had run out. This was not a big deal for 3 of our party. 2 of our party ordered something else, something for which they were thinking of having originally. One person was able to have the pot roast.
We were with a large crowd, most of whom I did not know, so I am aware that their experience may be different. I would try this place again, probably a different day of the week. Also, on their sign, there is no mention this place is open on Sunday.
