First off we were planning on another place, but when they fell through we shifted gears and let me tell you we were VERY happy with the shift.

The menu was extensive and everything was fresh and made to order. We all wished there was a little more descriptions on the drinks and potentially some of the food as it is traditional and we were not aware of everything in it. That said, EVERYTHING we tried was delicious and we have been talking about it with everyone since we came.

We loved the family style setup and the environment was really nice, loved the look and feel of the place. We will definitely be back to give an extended review. If you are looking for a “hidden” gem and want some authentic and fresh Chinese food, then look no further.

Tell em Vin Vin sent you, I’m tryna see something!
Enjoy and use those chopsticks!!

Excellent Chinese food in a pleasant environment. Right across from the Regal theaters , it’s a good spot to grab some food or a drink before or after a film . Has a full bar with craft beers on tap. Staff is attentive and welcoming. My favorite is the fresh steamed dumplings.

The food here is legit. Kind of like banquet style food. I’m Chinese American and I went here with my mainland Chinese mom and she said the food was pretty good (that’s a big compliment coming from her). Get the lobster if you can afford it. Worth the price.

Decent place overall, I’m glad we tried it. Almost everything is family style which I understand is common practice for this type of cuisine but it does make dining a little difficult if you have differing tastebuds than your companions.

I appreciated the “American Chinese Food” section of the menu, they know how to captivate all audiences.

Our server was nice and accommodating. It wasn’t too busy as it was St. Patrick’s day so we were one of the few tables but regardless the food came out very quickly and we didn’t want for anything all night nor did we ever feel rushed even though we were there until closing.

Very satisfied with the authentic Sichuan dishes. The spice levels were something we really enjoyed. The dry hotpot was a good amount for the price. The service was also fantastic. Alcoholic options were on the higher price side so we avoided. Vibe was great and the restaurant is beautiful.

The manager, Kevin, and Emperor Gardens amazing staff went above and beyond for my family. We were a party of eight celebrating a birthday, and Kevin gave us our own private seating area and accommodated us in every way. The staff was very attentive to all of our requests and needs!

The food! I can’t say enough great things about the food we had! Highly recommend the sliced beef with scallions and the lobster dishes! This restaurant is the closest you can get to NYC/Flushing Queens traditional Chinese cooking! We also had many dumplings from the traditional steamed/fried pork and veggie options – and chicken with mixed vegetables, plain noodles for the kids, and orange chicken with broccoli.

The portions to the food are bountiful! You definitely get your moneys worth. Come hungry! Be sure to get the delicious Chinese sweet wine with the flower pedals in it! It tasted like candy.

Thank you again to the staff and Kevin for making our celebrations memorable and happy!

We were very pleasantly surprised with how good the food is at Emperors Garden, given its location inside Crossgates Mall. The first thing that’s important to understand is that this is fairly authentic Chinese food. While they do have a Chinese American Takeout section on their menu (we didn’t order from it), most of the dishes are traditional Chinese cuisine. This means that some dishes have bones and pieces of chili or whole spices that aren’t intended to be eaten. If you aren’t familiar with traditional Chinese cuisine, and if you aren’t adventurous, then maybe stick to the Chinese American section.

We ordered pan fried pork dumplings, dry fried squid, mala peanut crispy chicken, and seasoned green bamboo. The pork dumplings were fine, they seemed like they were frozen/commercially made, but everything else was spectacular and well prepared.

As other reviews mentioned, the service is a major issue here. Everyone we dealt with was friendly, but nothing seemed to flow smoothly. The food never comes out all at once in a Chinese restaurant, but usually it comes out with enough pacing that the dishes are all enjoyed together. In this case our first entree dish arrived before our rice and our vegetable dish arrived so far after our entrees that we were already done with the meal.

All this said, the restaurant is newly opened and hopefully this is just a growing pain and gets resolved as they develop better routines and train staff. It won’t deter us from going back.

A final note to management- the menu situation is unnecessarily confusing. The tablets aren’t great and took more work than a paper menu (our server struggled to get them set up and then mine crashed while I was browsing the menu). The organization by cuisine is also inconvenient, most other Chinese restaurants organize by categories like pork, vegetables, rice, noodles, etc. It’s much easier for the diner to plan a balanced meal when you can look at the vegetable section to find a vegetable, rather than have to flip between the different cuisine sections looking for vegetables. Just something to consider

Utterly thrilled to (finally) find a good Chinese restaurant serving authentic dishes in the capital region.

Pros:
-Pea shoots were perfectly cooked (and I haven’t found these anywhere else around here – they’re so good)
– Steamed sea bass was super fresh in a delicious sauce, beautifully plated. (I couldn’t believe I was in a mall eating that nice of a dish).
– homemade chili oil

Cons:
– soup dumplings were freshly made but not that flavorful (or soup filled) and small. Still solid though.
– hot and sour soup had good flavor but seemed like they watered it down.

Tons of interesting looking dishes on this menu, I’m definitely going back.

Not surw why people have been providing less than 4 stars in the reviews and leaving positive feedback. Overall really nice food with authentic good flavor. One of the best chilli oils I have tried in asian restaurants. Beef lou mein was delicious and dumplings are also good!
