I made my first visit to Emmanuel’s today after a glowing recommendation by a coworker.
What Emmanuel’s has going for it:
– Nice, if somewhat small, dining area
– Interesting selection of dishes and baked goods from around the world
– Helpful staff
– It’s a local restaurant in a town increasingly dominated by chains
What Emmanuel’s has going against it:
– Prices are too high for the portion sizes
I ordered empanadas, hummus, and tabouli salad along with a cup of warm apple cider. This three-dish meal could have easily fit on a standard dinner plate with room left over. Everything tasted fine but nothing was particularly exciting. My bill was $26, which is very steep considering the portion size and quality of the food.
I understand paying more for quality, local ingredients, but there’s also a point of diminishing returns. I really can’t justify returning to Emmanuel’s when I could get a delicious and filling meal elsewhere for half the cost.

Had delicious pastries and coffee here this morning. Hope to grab lunch from the restaurant tomorrow. Delicious and different cuisine that you can’t get elsewhere in Parkersburg.
