After a bit of a chaotic first attempt due to Dine Downtown, we finally made it back to Ella—and I’m glad we did. The food absolutely delivered.

We started with the steak tartare, which was excellent—well-balanced, nicely seasoned, and with just the right amount of garlic. For mains, I had the pan-roasted king salmon. It was cooked beautifully, though a touch saltier than my personal preference. My fiancé ordered the oven-roasted pork chop, and that was easily the star of the table—juicy, flavorful, and perfectly executed.

Drinks were also a highlight. I ordered the White Linen, a refreshing gin-based cocktail with cucumber and lemon that was light and easy to drink. My fiancé’s Sip Into Something (tequila blanco with caramelized pineapple, lime, tamarind, and allspice) completely stole the show—complex, balanced, and honestly way better than mine.

Overall, a strong return visit with standout dishes and great cocktails. When Ella is on, it really hits its stride and makes for an elegant date night!

We came here tonight for a special celebration. The restaurant has a warm ambiance, bright and welcoming. The fried chicken was ok, not something I would eat. For a teen, it hits the spot. We had devil eggs and bone marrow and both were delicious. My husband got pork chop and I got tenderloin. Both were great. Desserts and service were excellent. Top notch! We would return to try other dishes.

I really wanted to like this more than I did. I didn’t dislike it but I was underwhelmed. The truffles had no flavor which was disappointing- not sure if they were real as their color was much darker than every other black truffle I’ve ever eaten and it arrived shredded which was a new experience for me. My husband had a steak and it was delicious.
Our waiter was odd and didn’t really seem to be into his job. Every other waiter in the restaurant was engaging with their tables and gave a lot more menu information than ours gave.
Dessert was good and just okay. We had the milk and cookies – I was tempted because I love horchata. Could have been so much better if they’d have served the cookies warm. The sticky toffee pudding was very good.
So all in all it was hit and miss with the drinks, the entrees, the dessert, and the waitstaff.

Great atmosphere , the service could get improved. Food is 3 starts. I’m not sure what the hype is about… we have visited three different places this week and this place was highly recommended and it was the least impressive place. It’s very underwhelming .
The gnocchi were in the super rich and creamy , but too runny Yolk sauce — unique, but I did not like it.
Also, probably the worst dessert we have ever tried – hazelnut chocolate cake tasted like the cake from your local store with a weird combination of jam- we didn’t like it at all.

Bar was packed for Tuesday happy hour but I found a single spot. Service was a bit slow due to the crowd but friendly.

The beef tartare was unique with the soft garlic popovers. I think I still prefer a more traditional firmer bread.

The fried chicken breading and seasoning was good. I didn’t think it was anything super special worth over $30.

I’d still return though to try some of the other menu items!

Had a great experience here. Came for the Dine Downtown promo. Starters (a soup & salad) were both yummy, but nothing to rave about. Entree was tasty and very well cooked (NY Strip). Dessert was okay, wouldve been better if cookies were warm. Depending on where you sit in the restaurant, you can see the kitchen busy at work. As a foodie, i loved the little sneak peak behind the scenes.

Atmosphere was definitely elevated. Plates were beautiful. Drinks were fancy (im a sucker for the lil details-peep the ice cube hehe). Service was phenomenal. Finished plates were cleared quickly & my water cup was always full. Our waiter, Luis, was fantastic as well. He explained the specials, answered any questions we had, and took our order quickly without feeling rushed. He even recommended the perfect dessert wine to top off our meal. Thank you, Luis!

Overall we had a lovely meal & experience at Ellas. We will definitely be back when we’re in the mood to splurge a lil bit.
Pro tip – the valet is actually cheaper than most of the nearby parking garages.

Ella in Sacramento is one of those dining experiences that gently surprises you — in the best way. From the moment we walked in, the interior felt warm, thoughtfully designed, and inviting. The decor is tasteful without being pretentious, lighting and music struck a nice balance for conversation, and the whole space had a relaxed, cozy energy that made us feel immediately at ease.

A few practical notes before the food: the location itself isn’t the most strategic if you’re picky about the immediate surroundings — there were a lot of people experiencing homelessness within a few blocks, so that’s something to be aware of as you approach. Parking can be a bit of a challenge too because there’s no street parking nearby. There is a public parking structure within a block (we weren’t entirely sure about its safety late at night), but if you want to minimize worry, Ella offers valet right outside which is super convenient and I’d recommend if you can.

Service was friendly and professional all evening. The staff were attentive and kind, and they handled our party of three very well. Just know this is a place to savor rather than rush — food came at a relaxed pace. We had an 8 pm reservation and didn’t leave until after 10 pm. That might seem long for a small group, but for us it turned the meal into a proper, unhurried outing. If you’re pressed for time, consider an earlier reservation or letting the staff know up front.

Now for the best part: the food. Everything we tried was genuinely delicious. We started with bread and butter (a classic choice, though in hindsight we should have gone with the truffle bread — that’s the one to get next time). The beef tartare was a standout and, amusingly, a favorite for our 5-year-old — it was fresh, finely seasoned, and perfectly textured. We also had a pumpkin soup that felt like comfort in a bowl; it was creamy, well-spiced, and exactly what we wanted to warm up with.

For mains, we were very happy. The beef zabuton was super juicy and wonderfully tender — cooked with care and full of flavor. Their famous fried chicken deserves the hype: it was crisp, juicy, and absolutely finger-lickin’ delicious. The truffle pasta was heavenly — rich, aromatic, and the kind of dish that makes you close your eyes and smile after the first bite. Our tummies were very thankful by the end of the evening.

If I had to give a single piece of dining advice for Ella, it would be to order the truffle bread instead of the plain bread and butter — it’s a small change that elevates the meal right away. Also, be prepared to take your time there; the slow pace becomes part of the experience, allowing you to enjoy each dish without feeling rushed.

Overall, Ella delivered a wonderful evening. The interior and atmosphere were outstanding, service was warm and professional, and the food was memorable (with just the minor grumble about bread that’s easily fixed). Parking and the surrounding neighborhood are considerations, but valet helps a lot with convenience and peace of mind. We left full, happy, and already planning a return visit. Highly recommended for a relaxed, delicious night out in Sacramento.

Fresh, delicious foods with a lot of flavors. The signature Gin & Tonic was great as well. Also, 5 stars for our server (Alexander G) for taking good care of us.

Ella’s is one of those rare spots where comfort food meets refined cooking in the best possible way. The truffle risotto is pure decadence—rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of truffle aroma. It’s luxurious without being overwhelming, and every bite is deeply satisfying.
Then there’s the fried chicken—crispy, golden, and incredibly juicy on the inside. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into the seasoning and execution; it’s easily some of the best fried chicken I’ve had anywhere.
The wine list is small, but that’s part of the charm. It’s clearly curated with intention, offering thoughtful pairings that elevate the meal without overwhelming you with choices. Every bottle feels like it has a story—and the staff is more than happy to help guide you to the perfect match.
Ella’s strikes a beautiful balance between approachable and elevated. It’s the kind of place you’ll want to come back to again and again.
