The side dishes are not what you would find in a chain restaurant. Fried cabbage, collards, sweet potatoes, mac & cheese, rice, mixed veggies and more.
Price point was great too. I paid $15.95 for a meatloaf (delish) entree with THREE sides. I selected the $20-$30 range because we had pie with our meals. It’s a little (very little) off the beaten path, but well worth the detour. It was spotlessly clean including the restrooms. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this place. Give it a try. Mexican restaurants are a dime a dozen in the southwest, but this place? It’s definitely a rare gem!
I only wish we had left room for some of her homemade pies!
I highly recommend….
We each enjoyed a meal plate that includes 3 sides from an extensive selection and their signature cornbread, plain or jalapeño. Vegetarians and Meat Lover’s ( see menu) welcome! At first bite, you will believe you have died and gone to Heaven. Everything was freshly cooked and mouth watering delicious. Needless to say, we ate it all. Be sure to save room for Elisa’s homemade pies. We ordered 1 of each of the 4 day’s pies: Millionaire, Pumpkin,Lemon Cream, and Key Lime to share with friends tonight. Also, I took some cornbread home for the morning. We visited Eliza’s a few years back in their small restaurant downtown Demming. I can see and taste why they outgrew that location. Only here a year, this new location, which is spacious, clean, and decorated with the warm colors of the southwest sunshine. Beautiful artwork, even in the bathroom. Be sure to stop in and bring your friends. This is the culinary jewel in Demming. Enjoy.
The pie lady used to have her business downtown. When I asked, She explained that she moved 5 miles out of town so she could better afford to have a restaurant and her pie business.
I went to her place of business and selected a frozen Keylime pie. For me it seemed very expensive, $24. Because I bought it on Wednesday I got a 10% discount. I paid with a credit card that was processed through her phone with some attachment. I only pressed one button which declined leaving a tip, because I don’t tip people for handing me something across the counter. Maybe you do I don’t know 10 minutes later. I get a phone call from her. She had my number because I called her to ask her what kind of pies she had ready to go. This is where it gets weird. She said I seemed like I was in a hurry. Suddenly, I think oh no, I left my credit card. Then she tells me that I hit the wrong button and that she slightly overcharged me for the pie. She told me that I would have to come back by our shop and bring my credit card so that I could be refunded. She definitely acted like it was my fault. I certainly didn’t see a button for extra charge or press the button twice. I was headed out of town with the pie. I told her I would be back later to get the refund. She told me she closed at seven. I started thinking about it and I called her back. I said how much did I get charged extra? It was then she informed me that I was double charged and then I could come and get a refund or pick up another pie. I told her I would be back for the refund. Hours later, I returned with my credit card. She got out her phone and the attachment and showed me that she had gone ahead and made the adjustment and fully refunded my money. So there was no need for me to go out of my way to show up physically with my credit card. She could’ve just called me and I would’ve taken her word or checked my statement. Strike three was when her employee, relative or maybe the cook asked me how the pie was. I told her it was fine. There was an awkward silence from her and then she pushed back “just fine she asked?“ I said yes, it was fine. I think it’s really pushy to ask for a compliment. But I’ll tell you right now. It was nothing about the pie that would lead me to believe that it was handmade. It wasn’t bad. It tasted like Keylime pie, but it was just the graham cracker crust with a mousse like consistency that tasted like Keylime pie. Keylime pie is my favorite and if I pay $25 for a custom handmade pie, it should have some twists of the Keylime peel, maybe a fluted crust. Or some other garnishment. It was nothing special. If she made it with key limes, the peel could be used to garnish. A dab of whipped cream in the middle maybe? Marie Callender‘s Keylime straight from Walmart is a better pie and it’s available for about half or less. I didn’t appreciate being pressed for a fake compliment. I didn’t appreciate having to drive all the way back. And I didn’t appreciate dealing with a merchant that does not have their payment system competent/ together. That’s three strikes you’re out. I hate riding bad reviews of people. But this was ridiculous. I could have overlooked the value of the pie. She could’ve been straight with me about the double charge without trying to blame me for it. Why they didn’t have a regular credit card processor I don’t know. Now I have to check with my credit card company to look for any errors. I hope they get their stuff together. I will not be returning.
