There’s not many sushi places in the Tenderloin. They used to be on Golden Gate and Larkin, then they moved up to Geary and Leavenworth. They were open for a while and I guess the pandemic put them on hiatus. Glad to see that they’re open again!
I got the chips and dip to start, which consisted of shrimp chips and spicy tuna with a sweet soy glaze. Forget popcorn, I want a bowlful of this to snack on! The shrimp chips were crispy and full of shrimp flavor. It kinda reminded me of these shrimp chips I can only find in Hawaii that’s seasoned with furikake. This one is lightly seasoned to let the tuna shine. It had a good kick but was tempered by the sweet soy glaze. I wish there was more of it because it was yummy.
I got the Giants roll as well and it was delicious. The salmon was fresh and it paired well with the acidity from the tomatoes. And these are big rolls. I accidentally filmed myself eating and I looked like a chipmunk LOL.
The spicy mayo and that wonderful sweet soy glaze paired well together. I added a bit of wasabi for an extra kick and a bit of regular soy sauce for umaminess, and it was the perfect bite. And a big bite at that.
I think next time I’ll get hot sake. That one of the first thoughts after finishing my meal, and toh you can’t go wrong with sake.
I really like how intimate the space is. It’s only bar seating, and it feels like one of those hole-in-the-wall places in Tokyo. And I really like the decor and the hidden details.
And service was excellent!
Elephant Sushi has other spots in the city, but definitely visit this location in the Tenderloin for really good sushi.

Elephant Sushi has some of the best sushi rolls and sashimi in the city! All of the ingredients are sourced fresh daily, and the atmosphere is upbeat and fun. Their sushi chef was very friendly, and he expertly prepared some of the best sushi rolls I’ve ever tasted. I highly recommend Elephant Sushi for their outstanding food, impeccable service, and relaxing vibe. This is my go-to sushi restaurant for a quick bite on the weekend, or for casual dining when my friends visit from out of town.

The place is a bit cram due to it’s small size, but the food is excellent. Unlike traditional Japanese sushi where the flavoring primarily came from the soy sauce, they have added strong flavoring elements to their sushi, ranging from truffle to spices. It makes their sushi much more tasty and savory. So it’s going to be a unique sushi tasting experience if you are up for it.

Had some friends in town for a visit and we were looking for sushi. Stumbled upon Elephant Sushi on Geary and had one of the best culinary experiences. It was their pre-grand re-opening, and they had very limited available dine-in seating. The owners were beyond gracious, they welcomed us in and prepared a custom array of top tier sushi. The experience was one of a kind and service beyond impeccable. Elena, I believe her name was, warm, personable, and intuitive. The sushi chef had 20+ years experience in crafting fine sushi and the experience was wonderful.

For sure one of the best sushi places I’ve been too. The place is very small (about 10 seats), so expect to wait or make a reservation. We waited about 35 min. but definitely the waiting worth. The staff is very kind and the quality of the food is outstanding.

This is the best sushi I’ve had in a very long time. They have great service and the quality of their menu items are exceptional. I highly suggest eating here if you get the chance. The seating is narrow but getting there when they open makes for a shorter wait. Love this spot m, so excited to eat there again!

We arrived right at 6pm when they opened so we did not have to wait to be seated. They don’t have many seats, bar style dining. If there is a line, wait in it. It’s worth the wait. They have a bunch of great options and the food is delicious. The fish was flavourful and they added a few twists like truffle salt and black truffles on some things. It’s a little on the pricier side but it is worth it as the service is great and the food excellent. By far the best sushi I’ve had.

Believe the hype. The food here is delicious. There is nothing I wouldn’t order again. But I have to say, the toro was my favorite. This place is small so I would suggest getting here right when they open. The fish is amazing so I would suggest you put down the soy sauce and go easy on the wasabi.
