In a city overflowing with Mexican restaurants—trust me, I’ve visited them all—there’s one family-run spot that’s in a league of its own. I’m always on the hunt for authentic Mexican food that doesn’t cut corners on quality, and this family has absolutely nailed it. They bring generations of recipes to life, offering generous portions at prices that match the market, without ever sacrificing the love and care in every dish. This little family has brought back a treasure to Blue Springs, and if you want to taste real, authentic Mexican food served with heart, you need to try them.
They used to run a successful business here before. They had to shut their doors to Covid. Now they are back fully rebranded. El Tucan, Mexican Cuisine off of 7hwy.
We were the last group and the service was like we were during lunch. We were valued and dearly cared for. Fox4 is doing an interview with them this Wednesday which will air on the 29th. They made us part of the family. Thank you, we have a new favorite place and yes we will come back for the next birthday.— Thank you all so dang much.

Disappointed, plenty of room for improvement. First the place is very clean and the staff is friendly and prompt. There were three adults and a 3yo. I ordered a raspberry margarita and there was so much ice I would estimate 6-7 oz of product. I honestly do not think there was any alcohol whatsoever in it. It tasted just like raspberry lemonade. Wife tried it and agreed, no alcohol. The meal promptly came and looked good. I had the Burrito Ranchero which was to have beef, beans and rice with sour cream and guac. The burrito was 95% rice, very little ‘beef’ mixed in and the beans were just in the middle and maybe a table spoon worth if that. Again it was 95% rice (for $15.99). Wife had taco salad which we both agreed was, well…the picture speaks for itself. Daughter had the chimichanga which appeared to be the best meal there and the kids meal was ok. We all agreed the taste was very bland, not impressed at all with the flavor. As for value, none. For what 3 adults and one child had ($80 with tip) we could had gone to Texas Roadhouse. Sorry but we won’t return, prices are stupid high for what you get and what you do get isn’t anything special, average at best. Should had wondered why on a Friday night there were only 2 other parties not including ours there, now we know what everyone else knows, food average…maybe…drinks watered down and overpriced. We enjoy a quality/authentic style Mexican meal and this isn’t it. Also, the receipts aren’t itemized, it’s just one total. Didn’t notice if there was a bogus merchant fee added. If you do go, look very closely at the receipts.

Thick warm chips, chunky salsa. Salsa didn’t have much heat/spice, in fact almost tasted sweet, but it grew on me. I ordered the street tacos. You get 5 tacos, 3 probably would have done me. It also came with a bean soup. It had beans and boiled bacon and looked like it might have had cut up Vienna sausages in it Also, it’s either chicken or carne asada, you can’t split the order between the two meat choices. It had beans, peppers, boiled bacon and what looked like cut up Vienna sausages in it. It was very tasty. The wait staff was friendly and helpful.

My wife and I have been here several times and each time it seems like the quality is degrading with each visit. The meal I ordered came with beans and rice. The beams were stale and just tasted like old grease. The rice was good as long as it wasn’t touched by the beans. The main part of the meal was luke warm but at least tasted very good. The plate was hot but the food was barely warm. This has been the case for the last 3 visits. My wife ordered a meal and she had the same complaints old tasting beans, she said her rice was stale, her main course was warmer than mine. Disappointed as when we first came in the food was great fresh food hot food this is why we keep trying to come back to see if this place can capture that feeling. After this visit I think we will pass. There are other places to spend 50$ at and have a more consistently enjoyable meal. Try it if you want maybe you will hit on a better day than us.

My family and I enjoyed eating at their previous restaurant,Real Jalisco. The new location has many of the same dishes as the previous version. We were warmly greeted by the owner, who remembered us from our visits in the past location. The service was friendly and timely. The chips and salsa were excellent, but this is not your typical Tex-Mex restaurant. These are more authentic Mexican dishes, and the menu has many interesting options. My husband enjoyed his margarita. My husband also commented on the quality of the beef in his tacos. I had the shrimp enchiladas, and in the past, I have gotten one of their tomato base dishes, which included cactus. The atmosphere is light, bright, and welcoming. They are open for lunch and dinner and can accommodate larger groups. We very much enjoyed our visit.

Possibly the worst Mexican restaurant I’ve ever eaten at. Their soft drinks tasted completely off, the food itself was not good. The enchiladas were tiny little things with bland chicken and hardly any sauce or cheese. The rice was average at best. The booth we sat in was not even attached to the wall.
Oh, and to cap it off, I got food poisoning the same day that I ate there. Can I say it’s definitively from there? No, but I will always have my suspicions. Do not recommend!

This restaurant is owned by the former owners of Real Jalisco, previously in Blue Springs several years ago. So glad they’re back! Their authentic dishes are unique, varied, and have amazing flavor and ingredient combinations.
The chips they use are a little thicker than most Mexican places and seasoned nicely.
I had the pollo a la mexicana which is a chicken dish with onions and mushrooms served over Spanish rice. It had tomatoes and garnished with scallions. It was really good!
My wife had the pollo con crema which was another chicken dish with white wine cream sauce with mushrooms, peppers onions and cheese with rice and beans.
Our daughter had the kids chicken quesadilla and liked hers.
Great owners, great food and so glad they’re back!

This is our go-to place. Loved them as Real Jalisco and are so glad they are back in Blue Springs as El Tucan.
Few things you should know: while Tex Mex is tasty, order it here and you are missing out on some truly special dishes. Try the Mariposa Jalisco. It’s our family’s favorite – chicken (pork is good too), with just the right spice in a tasty mushroom and cactus sauce and it feels clean and fresh which can be challenging at a Mexican restaurant. If you’re not a fan of spice, try the Pollo a la Parilla. If you do like spice, request spicy salsa with your chips. Their shrimp tacos (Tacos Chapala) and the Tacos El Tucan are also excellent. The creamy chicken and veggies of Pollo al Chipotle are perfect comfort food.
If you enjoy vegetarian dishes, please try the Enchiladas espinaca and tell me what sort of magic they use to make humble spinach other worldly. Most of their items are gluten free (with the exception of their chips) if you need that.
The owners are gracious and accommodating and just some of the best people I’ve come to know.

The food is authentic, something I cant say about a lot of the Mexican restaurant in the blue springs area. I love the service and I’m always welcomed each and every time I go. This is my go to spot each time I’m craving authentic Mexican food, without breaking my bank! I would one million percent recommend this place. They have a variety of different items on their menu and I can say that everything I’ve tried is by far the best dish’s I’ve ever had at a dine in experience.
