Service was a little slow. The restaurant was very clean and I enjoyed the large wooden booths to sit in
It was chori pollo special and discount margarita night. We were able to save some money getting the specials.
Salsa was a little hot for the house sauce. Chips best yet!

Cozy atmosphere, delicious + affordable Mexican food near the college campus dorms, and attentive service.
Chips and salsa were provided. Each were replenished frequently and even with some fresh, hot chips! Salsa was slightly spicy but manageable for even a spice baby like me.
I had hot water and the fajitas lunch special. My partner had ice water and the lunch special #10 (quesadilla, enchilada and chalupa). Plenty of food per dish. The base with the fajitas were a little more salted than I would have liked, especially if not throughly mixed with everything else, so I wish more rice could be provided (besides just ordering a side of rice for a couple bucks). Otherwise, the food was enjoyable and your typical Mexican cuisine.

November 25, 2023 – Stopped in this El Toro on South Neil in Champaign for lunch before the Illinois football game. It was my first visit to this location. My son and I had an enjoyable time. The staff was friendly, the service quick and the food delicious.
We both ordered from the lunch menu. My son ordered the Manager’s Special, a large chicken quesadilla with beans and rice. I had #7, chili relleno and chalupa with rice. Both dishes were fresh and flavorful and just the right temperature. We were quite pleased. I recommend this El Toro without any reservation.

Some of the best Mexican food I have ever had. The service was super fast, and everything was delicious. Not at all what I expected based on the location, but the decor is quaint. There is also a slot machine area if thats your thing.

Also the chips are very bland with like no seasoning and like no salt.
Their guacamole is good. Rice was pretty bland.
Also they advertise online on U of I iCard benefits website that there’s an Icard person for U of I Icard holders, but when I asked if they still give the discount, they said no. So that needs to be updated.
Also some map apps still show the old El Toro location which needs to be updated.

Server was prompt and not intrusive. Small family place. Food was delicious and I had leftovers.which is always a plus. I would definitely stop again. I had Happy Pollo as seen in photos.
My sister-in-law made the suggestion. Stating that the fajitas quesadillas were awesome and that she always took some home. I enjoyed the salsa and chips they have bottles of ‘rock your world’ on the table for those that wish to heat it up.

Love it here. The staff is always friendly, they are welcoming for young kiddos, and the food is really good. I love the grilled avocado dish! P.S. the margaritas are really strong

It was a busy night so maybe that’s why but the food was just “ok”. We’ve ordered El Toro through door dash and it’s been better so maybe the location makes a difference? Service was friendly, food came out very quickly, makes me wonder if things are just heated up in a microwave.
