If you are looking for the best tacos in Vallejo, El Tesoro Mazatlán is a mandatory stop. While they are famous for their mariscos (seafood) and Mazatlán-style shrimp dishes, their street tacos are the local gold standard.

The Food
As you can see from the photo, the presentation is stunning—yes, those are fresh orange slices and a purple orchid, making “street food” feel like a fine-dining experience.
• The Tacos: Served on double corn tortillas, the meats are juicy and perfectly seasoned. The Carne Asada has that authentic char, while the Al Pastor offers the perfect balance of savory and spice.
• The Toppings: They don’t skimp. You get a generous heap of fresh cilantro and onions, with crisp lime wedges to cut through the richness.
• Pro Tip: Don’t skip the chips! They are served warm with a house-made salsa that has just the right amount of kick.

The Vibe & Service
The atmosphere inside is vibrant, clean, and filled with colorful Mexican artwork. The service is famously friendly—don’t be surprised if you’re treated to a complimentary churro at the end of your meal. It’s that extra touch of hospitality that makes this a standout Mexican restaurant in the Bay Area.

The food was so good. Everything tasted homemade and made with love. We tried the ceviche it was very flavorful not too spicy just right. The queso fundido is a must. What’s not to love about hot cheese. All the hot sauces are really good especially the pickled onions. The service was spectacular the atmosphere was great. Very affordable for really good seafood.

I’m so glad we stopped here! The carnitas had the perfect combination of tenderness, crispiness, and flavor. The churros were so delicious! The service was great as well.

I am not local to the area but have gotten to eat here twice and it has been fantastic both times. Great food, friendly service, clean. Tons of options but the fish and shrimp are very fresh and cooked perfectly. Definitely recommend this spot.

Where to start???

This place cannot be more of a hidden gem!
Ideally located RIGHT off of the freeway 80E, and tightly nuzzled between a liquor store and a bar, this place shines when it comes to the staff, the cleanliness, and the food…. Oh yea, the Micheladas are pretty tasty, too!

Great energy in this place! Music, but not loud. Authentic as they come!

Even got a complimentary churro!!!

Been coming here for a little over a year, first time writing a review. If I wasn’t so lazy, I would have written a review the first time I ate here!

Great food and music, the best part though is that they generate less plastic trash by offering non disposable salsa cups

Dropped into El Tesoro Mazatlan restaurant for a late lunch. Staff provided fast service and was attentive to our needs. The wait for the order was relatively short. The food was delicious and the staff provided us with complimentary churros for dessert. It was a bright atmosphere within the restaurant. We got parking when we visited but it is sort of limited. Wish I had the appetite to keep up with my desire to sample more of the food items. This was a fantastic lunch. I look forward to revisiting El Tesoro Mazatlan next time I’m in the area.

When you walk through the barred door plastered with all the offerings and hear the music bumping at near max volume you can rest assured you’ve stepped into someplace magical.

The employees greet you eagerly and are exceptionally attentive to our needs. First thing was we were offered free refills to our Agua Fresca (We had Jimica) and access to the crazy salsa bar with an assortment of delicious (and sometimes spicy) selection of accompaniment to your complementary chips.

I had the carnitas chimichanga and my date had the menudo. My date says the menudo was ‘clean’ the meat was tender, the broth was flavorful and not too spicy. It hit the perfect spot for her.

My chimi had a great fried crust to the tortilla, and the additions (sour cream, lettuce, and pico) were located on the sides. I appreciated this as I like to enjoy the chimi as plain as possible first bite so I could enjoy it on its own.

That first bite was amazing. The beans were perfectly distributed with the carnitas. The meat itself was flavorful and tender, and while moist it was not greasy.

We were offered some small churros with a lovely dollop of some sort of dipped frosting. This was provided on the house which was a pleasant surprise and ended our night marvelously.
