I just tried one dish so far and it was well made. This place is more central American style than Mexican. I wasn’t use to the taste but the pupusas were good I need to try more dishes. The hand made tortillas were a great touch!

It was awful. The gave my 84 year old brother spoiled meat and it was so dryed out and hard as a rock. I am not joking, it was that bad. It was spoiled and the cook knew it. As soon as we seen it I could tell it was dryed and rock hard and rotten. They did replace it with complain. My brother ordered soup. Even the owner said they could see it was rotten. I took pictures. If people that are cooking would serve meat that looked like that and tasted like that, I would not go there. They don’t care what they serve.

The people are supper nice but the pupusas don’t have much flavor, specially the pork ones.

Great Salvadorian food in the way to the Kern river or the Sequoia Mountains..
Order your pupusas ahead to go…

Simple, mid range price, food was quite plan, ie the chicken tasted cheap but the salsa was lovely and the tortilla was freshly cooked. Plus the desert was an authentic Mexican dish.
It was super quiet and abit odd but right next to the motel and the service was quite quick.

I kept driving by this place and wanted to try it. I went there yesterday, and ended up leaving before we even ordered. We sat and waited for quite a long time. We never had our drink order taken, and weren’t even provided menus. There were only maybe 2 or 3 other tables occupied in the restaurant. We left and went elsewhere.

It was very hot inside restraunt, it’s already hot outside so who wants to dine in & still feel as if you’re outside? Also, there was 1 waiter, a pre-teenaged young man; who had to run back & forth to ask his mother questions.(I assume his mother is the owner as well as cook.) It seems like the entire business wasn’t very thought & or planned out..

ordered 2 al pastor tacos and one chicken, also ordered 2 pupusas, waited over an hour because they said cook was sick, after an hour received 1 chicken taco and 2 asada, was told they are out of al pastor wasn’t even advised before hand, and they just decided I wanted asada…..didn’t even ask me, I also only got one pupusa, was told they forgot to put the other order in, didn’t even receive a discount after an hour wait, and receiving the wrong food, highly do not recommend. Will be leaving a yelp review as well, terrible customer service.

El Tazumal Restaurant is a very pleasant surprise! Seems to have Salvadoran and Honduran food in addition to Mexican!
I had the porkchop perfectly cooked in a savory tomato sauce, delicious rice different from any other and very creamy beans. Chips and salsa were also a notch above!
Our waitress spoke little english, so dig deep for that high school Spanish, but that all adds to the authenticity, this place is definately worth try!
