Recently, Efren decided that El Tapatio should offer a healthier Mexican option without sacrificing the quality or taste. Therefore, El Tapatio has made small but significant changes in the way it prepares its recipes. For example, El Tapatio does not use lard in the preparation of the refried beans, a healthier canola oil is used instead. In addition, El Tapatio utilizes the healthier sea salt in its recipes and in its table salt shakers. All of our sautéed meats such as fajitas and carnitas are cooked with vegetable, soybean, or canola oil as well.
El Tapatio prides itself in offering great value to its patrons. Your stomach won’t be disappointed with the generous servings and neither will your wallet with the prices. As always, chips and
Familiar Mexican dishes plus classic margaritas prepared in straightforward surroundings.

We were waited on by Jennifer and had excellent service. The food here is average and what I would expect from a traditional Mexican restaurant in Portland, e.g. exactly what you want when you want *that* type of meal.

Afternoon nachos. Good plate. Meat well seasoned. Good salsa too. Finished off with deep fried ice cream with the works.

I’ve been going here for a couple years and they just recently changed their beans and rice. It’s closer to Tex mex now instead of authentic Mexican food. Seriously, I think Taco Bell has better beans now. They’re oily and have tooooo much seasoning. The rice is tasteless with a lot of veggies now too. At least it means I’ll stop eating there as much and save money.

We’ve been coming here for close to 20 years. Excellent, friendly service from a kind family every time! The food is always consistently delicious and the atmosphere is casual with tons of comfortable booths.
We’ve loved everything we’ve ordered here but usually just get ala carte hard shell and soft flour ground beef tacos ($2.95 each). They’re a great deal and with all their complimentary chips and delicious salsa it just takes a few tacos to fill you up happily. We’ve also had their fajitas trio ($30) (beef, chicken, prawns and grilled peppers and onions) and it comes with a full size plate of beans, rice, sour cream, pico de gallo and guacamole – and really liked that. Their combo plates are so good with many choices of enchiladas, Rellenos, tamales, sopes, tacos, burritos… that come with beans and rice. Delicious and very filling. Highly recommended!!

I love the staff and used to love the food. Ate there many times in the past. I unfortunately had two instances one where the steak was off, and the last time the carnitas did not taste right either. It makes me sad, as we really love the staff, but cooking old meat and serving it, is a big no for me. We did mention it when last we ate there, so hopefully they are more attentive.

My organization, North by Northeast Community Health Center, recently held one of our community events, and we expected over 150 guests. We placed the order, and it was ready to pick up on time. The food portions were great, and many people asked who catered the food, as everything was so good!
Quotes from our guests:
“Staff were so friendly and helpful”
“The street tacos, rice and beans were FIRE!”
“Loved the Rice and Beans”
“EVERYTHING was GREAT!”
“My new Mexican Restaurant!”
We will definitely use them again, Thank you El Tapatio!

My wife and I stopped by for a late lunch on Thursday after a Dr’s appointment and we were pleasantly surprised! Jennifer, our server was amazing! She has wonderful customer service skills and we didn’t have to wait long at all for our chips and salsa, drinks or our food!
Our food was well prepared, very hot and very good!!! I had the 3 ground beef enchiladas with black beans & rice. My wife had the super beef burrito.
We were there around 4 pm so it was not busy yet. We will definitely be going back.

The sign states authentic Mexican food, this was not the case bland rice , cold unflavorable beans. The didn’t have bud light, budweiser. There was no taco special for a tuesday night.they rushed to pick up our plate with no offer for desert so I can’t leave a review in regards to a churro or Ice cream. Dimed, dingy atmosphere.

We were greeted and seated immediately. Soon after we received the chips and salsa. If you don’t like your salsa hot, ask for the milder version. The chips were freshly fried and the spicy salsa was perfect for me but, I enjoy spicy foods. The main courses arrived hot and were very good. The star of the meal was the fried ice cream. Served with whip cream, chocolate, Carmel, and raspberry sauces. Truly a great meal and experience.

Imagine going to a restaurant and talking rudely about customers in Spanish not knowing we can understand you. I’m wildly offended at the front of house / waitress staff & chefs in the kitchen for their remarks about not liking their food. Don’t waste your money here, this place is not worth the money or the bland food or crap service you’ll get. Management – would love to chat because your employees are seriously disgusting and disappointing.
