Finally found some time to give it a try while visiting the Denver area and definitely did not disappoint! Came in for an early lunch, shared a smothered Chili Relleno, and had the Cheeksmeat, Carnitas, and Pastor Tacos. Everything was outstanding, full of flavor, cooked and seasoned perfectly, and was at a perfect heat for my liking. Thought about it most of the day… just could not understand why it took so long to come in for a bite?!

Had a strong craving for some Mexican food and this is what google offered and after reading some reviews I decided to visit. I had the chicken taco plate. It was good, it also comes with rice & beans. The beans tasted like someone accidentally spilled cayenne pepper in them. They were very hot. The tacos were hot too, but they were a tolerable hot. This place could use a facelift as it consists of about 5 booths and it was a line outside the door. It’s super tiny and I was let down when I entered because it is a very ran down building. Our table was dirty and had something sticky on the bottom that turned me off.

Holy smokes, the food is incredible here. You’ll quickly be greeted with countless awards and accolades for this modest, hole-in-the-wall feel of a restaurant, and you’ll soon find out why.

I come here for one reason and one reason only, the Chile Relleno burrito smothered in green chile. Everything else I’ve had here is good. Somethings are as good as I’ve had elsewhere and somethings I’ve had better elsewhere. The rest of the menu really doesn’t matter to me because I will, and have, driven 200 miles out of my way just for this burrito. I love chile relleno burritos! It’s my go to item if I see it on the menu somewhere. I’ve tried a ton of them and this is my favorite. It’s a big burrito, not enormous, but it’s bigger than a burrito from Alberto’s, Filiberto’s, pick your favorite berto’s which is bigger than most burritos. The inside is filled with very tasty rice and beans, but most importantly a very generous portion of a cheese stuffed green chile pepper. It’s lightly battered in egg and deep fried so that there is a little bit of crispiness in many of the bites. There’s enough Chile Relleno to get some in every bite of the burrito along with the beans and rice if you’re paying attention. This is all wrapped in a perfect burrito tortilla meaning it stays out of the way flavor wise, adds a little chewiness to each bite, and holds together throughout the meal without getting soggy or falling apart-the perfect vehicle to convey the tastiness of this burrito. And if that wasn’t enough, this burrito is smothered in one of the most wonderful green chili sauces I’ve ever had. The green chili is a rich brown color and you can see in it pieces of the chili, onions and other seasonings that were cooked to perfection to make this excellent sauce. it’s not a heavy or thick green chile sauce. It’s light, savory and a wonderful compliment to the burrito. Take your time and pay attention to the wonderful blend of flavors in every well balanced bite you take. If you like green chile burritos and especially chile relleno burritos, you need to come to El Taco de Mexico and try this one out. If you have one that you like better, i sincerely want to know where it’s from so I can go try it.

Incredible! The carnitas tacos are bursting with flavor and the burrito is the best I’ve ever had. Exceeded expectations and really nice staff.

It’s been a minute but stepping back into ETdM was like reuniting with a dear friend who keeps it real. The old school counter, menu, and booths are all the same, higher prices like everywhere else of course, but nothing crazy. The green chile is still soul-quenchingly rich and the carnitas were spiced just right. When so many old haunts are shutting down, it’s great to have this legend live on!

This place is Mexican food heaven. I’ve been coming here for 20+ years and this hands down (and I don’t care what others say) the BEST, legitimate Mexican food in Denver. One step into this place and you’ll feel like you’re in Mexico.

In 2018 I drunkenly went to El Taco de México and had the best dang street tacos of my entire life. I have been SEARCHING for 5 years to find this place again with no luck until I went to First Friday with my friends and we decided to walk to get food. When we rounded the corner and I looked up, I was in disbelief. This was it, I had found it. I couldn’t believe it!
